Strange New Worlds Season 4 Gets An Exciting Update

Strange New Worlds Season 4 Gets An Exciting Update

Key Takeaways

  • Star Trek: Strange New Worlds confirmed for season 4, with production starting March 2025.
  • Previous seasons of SNW took around 5-6 months for production, wrapping up in July or August.
  • Season 4 premiere predicted around spring or summer of 2026, following previous release patterns.

As Star Trek fans await the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (SNW), set to premiere in early 2025, they’re also eager for news about the future of the series. Luckily, Jess Bush, who plays Nurse Christine Chapel in SNW, recently dropped some of the details Star Trek fans have been waiting to hear.

Paramount+ announced back in April 2024 that Strange New Worlds would be getting a fourth season, but the studio hasn’t released any other details since then. Though the studio hasn’t said anything, the show’s actors have dropped some hints. In an Instagram post shortly after the renewal was announced, Anson Mount, who plays Captain Christopher Pike, revealed the SNW cast would be back in Toronto for filming, “in the spring.” More recently, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Wesley, James T. Kirk in the show, said he’d be back on the SNW set in February 2025.

When Can Fans Expect Season 4?

As of right now, there’s no official word on when fans can expect season 4. However, production schedules from the previous seasons offer enough information for some educated guesses.

Production on season 3 of SNW began in December 2023 and wrapped in May 2024, which puts production at just around five months. Production on the previous seasons also took around five to six months. Historically, the SNW cast has headed to Toronto to start shooting in late winter or early spring, and completed production around the middle of the summer. If that pattern holds for season 4, then production should wrap up around July or August, as it has for previous seasons.

Of course, the end of production doesn’t mean the show is ready to go. There’s a ton of post-production work to do, including editing and reshoots. So, there’s always a pretty big gap between when production ends and when the new season premieres.

Though production on season 2 ended in the spring of 2022, the season didn’t premiere until mid-July of the following year. Though there usually isn’t such a big gap between the start of post-production and release, the premiere of season 2 was delayed by the SAG/AFTRA strike in 2023.

The gap between post-production and premiere will be smaller for season 3, as the third season is supposed to premiere early in 2025. The actual premiere date hasn’t been released yet, but if Paramount+ sticks to the general release schedule it’s used in the past, season 3 should premiere within the first few months of the year.

Given all that information, a reasonable prediction for a season 4 premiere is around the spring or summer of 2026. Of course, a lot could happen between now and then that could delay either the production or the release of season 4. But at least fans know they’ll eventually have more Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to watch once they’re done watching and rewatching the show’s third season.
