Shueisha Raises Mangaka Salaries

Writing a manga is a complicated job that requires a person to devote the majority of their time. Given the nature of the job, it makes sense for the manga authors to earn a good amount of money. According to a recent report, the salaries of the mangaka working for Shueisha have been increased.

The mangaka gets $3,300 upfront and $6,700 yearly. Each black-and-white page that they draw fetches $135, while colored pages are $203. Depending on how many pages a mangaka draws per month, they can receive varying payouts from Shueisha.

How Much Does Eiichiro Oda Earn?

It is important to remember that this is the money that a mangaka receives from Shueisha. This does not include the merchandise sales and other sales linked to the franchise. It is also possible that Shueisha has special contracts that are reserved for mangaka who work on big franchises.

For instance, someone like Eiichiro Oda will certainly have a bigger and better contract than others. After all, One Piece is the best-selling manga series of all time. Every year, Oda’s One Piece is among the top 3 best-selling manga. In fact, there have only been a handful of occasions where it has not finished in the top spot.

Besides manga sales, Oda likely earns a lot of money from other projects related to One Piece. Giving the rights to an anime studio to create an anime adaptation or a gaming studio to create a video game should fetch a hefty sum. More recently, Eiichiro Oda agreed to create a live-action adaptation of One Piece.
