How To Play Taurie Cain In DBD

Dead By Daylight’s Survivors come from all walks of life. Some were teachers, botanists, and architects – others were bouncers, drifters, and ghost-hunters. But they’re all tenacious, adaptable, and willing to risk it all to escape from The Entity’s Realms. But what if there was a Survivor who was trained from birth not to fight The Entity, but to strengthen it? To spread its influence and act on its behalf?

Some are more than even The Entity can control.

EnterTaurie Cain. Her family initiated her into their cult, The Disciples of the Black Talon, and she quickly became a willing participant in their dark rituals. From there, she traveled all over the world on behalf of the Black Talon – but she never expected to be on this side of The Entity’s games.

Taurie Cain’s Unique Perks

Taurie Cain's unique Perks from Dead by Daylight.

Coming from such a unique background, you might not be surprised to learn that her Perks are equally unique. Taurie’s Perks emphasize taking risks to help your team, and if you’re an expert at avoiding attacks from the Killer, you’ll find yourself right at home.

Clean Break

After completing a heal on another survivor, this Perk activates. While being healed by another Survivor, you can press the Ability button to give yourself the Broken condition for 60 seconds, after which you are healed back to Healthy. This effect is cancelled if you are Downed.

While it’s nice to be healed by a teammate, there are plenty of times where healing is unsafe and/or time consuming – if the Killer is running anti-healing Perks, for instance, or is about to interrupt you before your teammate can finish the heal. Clean Break helps in those situations, and it also saves you (and your teammate) time that could be spent working on Generators.

Invocation: Treacherous Crows

While in the Basement, you can perform a ritual that takes 60 seconds. If you successfully complete the ritual, you become Injured and Broken for the rest of the Trial. After the ritual is complete, any time the Killer startles a Crow while a Survivor is within their Terror Radius, the Killer’s Aura is revealed to all Survivors for two seconds.

Using any Invocation Perk is a big risk, and you must be willing to play Injured for the rest of the Trial to even consider it. If that doesn’t scare you, then Treacherous Crows can provide some highly valuable information for your whole team.

Shoulder the Burden

Once per Trial, while you have fewer than two Hook States, you can perform a special Unhook by pressing your Ability Button in front of a Hooked Survivor. You absorb that Survivor’s Hook State, scream, and become Exposed for 40 seconds. The Killer also hears a special sound notification and can see the absorbed Hook State on their HUD.

The ability for Survivors to take on a teammate’s Hook State can prevent tunneling, redirect the Killer’s attention, and allow for aggressive body-blocking with anti-tunnel Perks. If you’re confident you can outrun the 40 seconds of Exposed, you can do a lot for your team with Shoulder the Burden.

If you’re looking to get the Adept Taurie achievement, you’ll need to escape a Trial while using
only her three unique Perks.

Best Builds And Perk Combos For Taurie Cain

Taurie Cain's unique Perks from Dead by Daylight.

Between playing injured, making sacrifices for your team, and making yourself Exposed, you’ll need some tricks up your sleeves to survive and earn back The Entity’s favour. Thankfully, the other residents of the Fog have some tricks of their own to share.

Here are some good Perks for Taurie Cain:

Perk

Description

Wicked

After you are Unhooked, you see the Killer’s Aura for 20 seconds. Additionally, if your first Hook Stage is on a Basement Hook, you can Unhook yourself from that Basement Hook.

Wicked helps to insulate you from dangers of hanging out in the Basement – for example, if your Invocation gets interrupted by the Killer. It also informs you if the Killer is coming back to your Hook or not, giving you time to decide whether to finish the heal or leave with Clean Break.

Inner Focus

You can see the Scratch Marks of other Survivors, and any time the Killer causes a Survivor to lose a Health State, you can see the Killer’s Aura for ten seconds.

It makes sense for a Survivor who is so close to The Entity to be able to see things that only Killers can normally see. You can use the Scratch Marks to locate other Survivors, and the sporadic Aura-reading is always welcome.

Sprint Burst

When you start Running, gain a 50% Haste effect for three seconds. Once used, you gain the Exhausted condition for 40 seconds. This Perk cannot be used while Exhausted.

Exhaustion Perks are always useful, but when you’re frequently Injured (and sometimes Broken) you’ll want something that can be used at any time to get you out of a tight spot. Sprint Burst does this admirably and is very easy to unlock.

Lightweight

You create 60 percent fewer Scratch Marks, and they disappear five seconds sooner.

Sometimes the best way to waste the Killer’s time is to lose them entirely. Lightweight is a solid, completely passive Perk that will help you avoid undue attention – especially when you’re vulnerable.

Clean Break Perk Combos

Taurie Cain's Perk Clean Break from Dead by Daylight.

To make the most of Clean Break, you’ll need ways to avoid the Killer’s attention while you heal up. Of course, that doesn’t mean you need to hide away in a corner – there are lots of ways to still make an impact for your team while Injured.

Here are some Perks that will improve Clean Break:

Perk

Description

Iron Will

While Injured, your Grunts of Pain are silent. This Perk does not work while Exhausted.

This will help you sneak under the Killer’s nose while Injured, potentially getting in position for a Flashlight Save, Pallet Save, or Unhook.

Resilience

While Injured, your Action speeds are increased by nine percent (Healing, Repairing, Vaulting, etc.).

Resilience is a staple Perk for many players, especially those who like to play risky and stay Injured. Get on a Generator and complete it faster, or take chase and turn close hits into near-misses.

Invocation: Treacherous Crows Perk Combos

Taurie Cain's Perk Invocation: Treacherous Crows from Dead by Daylight.

As mentioned above, choosing to complete an Invocation will make the rest of the Trial much scarier for you, so finding ways to get value from it is paramount.

Here are two Perks to help with Invocation: Treacherous Crows:

Perk

Description

Calm Spirit

You no longer alert Crows unless you walk directly into them, you no longer scream, and you open Chests and cleanse/bless Totems silently. You interact with Chests and Totems 30 percent slower.

Aside from making Doctor players very sad (as he relies on making Survivors scream), this Perk does a lot to help you get value from Treacherous Crows. Since you will (almost) never set off a Crow yourself, the Killer will scare more of them, thus causing your Invocation to activate more frequently. It also synergizes with Shoulder the Burden, as the Killer will have less awareness of when and where you use it.

Eyes of Belmont

When a Generator is completed, you can see the Killer’s Aura for three seconds. In addition, any time you would see the Killer’s Aura for a set duration, that duration is increased by two seconds. This Perk affects itself.

The two seconds of Aura-reading you get from Invocation: Treacherous Crows is pretty short. And while it can definitely make a difference in chase, you know what would make a much bigger difference? Five seconds of Aura-reading. And as a bonus, it combines nicely with Inner Focus.

Shoulder the Burden Perk Combos

Taurie Cain's Perk Shoulder The Burden from Dead by Daylight.

One of the best things you can do to improve Shoulder the Burden is to play with Survivors who already have anti-tunnelling Perks such as Off the Record or Decisive Strike. Barring that, you want Perks to help reduce the risks associated with going for saves and making yourself Exposed.

Perk

Description

Babysitter

When you Unhook a Survivor, you see the Killer’s Aura for eight seconds. In addition, the Unhooked Survivor leaves no Scratch Marks and receives 20 percent Haste for 30 seconds (normally ten percent Haste for ten seconds).

This will let you know if the Killer is coming back to the Hook, and it ensures that even if you do go down, the Survivor you rescued will be long gone.

Vigil

Reduces the duration of negative status effects (Exposed, Exhausted, Mangled, etc.) by 30 percent for all Survivors within eight meters of you.

The most direct impact of Vigil on Shoulder the Burden is reducing how long you are Exposed for, which is very handy. The secondary effect is making any Exhaustion Perks you bring (such as Sprint Burst or Lithe) recharge 30 percent faster, which will help guarantee you don’t go down too quickly.
