Helldivers 2 Wins TIGA Games Industry’s Game Of The Year

Helldivers 2 Wins TIGA Games Industry's Game Of The Year

Key Takeaways

  • TIGA has given its 2024 Game of the Year award to Helldivers 2.
  • It also decided to give its Best Narrative award to The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered.
  • Still Wakes The Deep and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 were also big winners at the ceremony.

It might still be November but with 2024’s release schedule gradually winding down, various people, bodies, and outlets are starting to give out their Game of the Year awards. TIGA is one of the first to have handed out its awards, its annual ceremony taking place in London on Thursday night. Helldivers 2 took home TIGA’s Game of the Year, but another noteworthy winner from the evening was the game deemed to have 2024’s best narrative.

The TIGA award for Best Narrative Of 2024 went to The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered. Launching in January of this year, you might have forgotten the polished PS5 version of The Last Of Us Part 2 even arrived in 2024. Technically it did, which means technically it’s eligible for consideration alongside the rest of this year’s releases.

“There are no plans to allow players to go around capeless, nor will there ever be.”

There’s also no questioning that The Last Of Us Part 2 has a fantastic narrative. So good that the upcoming season of the video game series’ TV show will likely follow it beat for beat and introduce an entirely new audience to its heartbreak in 2025. However, The Last Of Us Part 2’s narrative was unleashed on the world in 2020. To give its storytelling an award four years later seems a little odd, even if it did get a remaster to kick off the year.

Still Wakes The Deep And Hellblade 2 Took Home A Couple Of Awards Each Too

Now, Helldivers 2 as Game of the Year, there will be few who take issue with that. The PlayStation console exclusive that unexpectedly gripped gaming back in February hasn’t even been nominated in Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards, so it’s nice to see the multiplayer hit pick up an early and significant win here. It joins Black Myth Wukong, which is in with a chance of winning The Game Awards’ Game of the Year, at the top of the GOTY awards table with one win each after the Game Science title picked up its first crown at The Golden Joysticks.

With more than 30 awards handed out, a lot of games from throughout 2024, and some that launched at the end of 2023, went home with TIGA accolades on Thursday night. Other notable winners include Still Wakes The Deep deservedly picking up the award for Best Sound Design, Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 taking home two awards, Best Action/Adventure Game among them, and Spider-Man 2 winning the rather unique TIGA award for Best Use Of A Licence.

The Last Of Us Part 2’s remaster is more than just a better-looking version of the original game. Enhanced for PS5, the remaster also adds a roguelike mode, DualSense support, and three lost levels that were cut from the original game during early development.
