Considering the volatile trajectory Helldivers 2 has had over the past year, being a community manager for the game was sure to be a draining task. Between the mandatory PlayStation Network controversy and the outrage over the game’s various nerfs, managing the Helldivers 2 community isn’t a job for the faint of heart.
That being said, community manager Thomas “Twinbeard” Petersson always rose to the occasion, treating everyone in the community with respect and regularly passing on useful information from Arrowhead. After an exciting year, Petersson is departing his role as community manager as his contract has ended (nice spot, Games Radar+).
On the Helldivers 2 Discord, Petersson gave a statement that reflected the events of the past year. “There’ve been some rough patches, but I always felt that we ventured through fire tornadoes and sandstorms together,” he begins. “We fought the alien scum and bot menace on the battlefield, experienced the same bugs, and we also turned the tide together. Helldivers 2 is a much healthier game today than it was a few months ago, and it has a bright future alongside all of you. Thank you for sticking with it, us at Arrowhead and me during my service here. Most of you know I neither BS nor lie, so when I say I’m forever grateful for you taking me along this amazing helldive, know that it’s from the bottom of my heart.”
Petersson adds a light sprinkling of intrigue at the end of his post, saying “There were things I wanted to say that I sometimes couldn’t. That’s part of the job. There were also things I wanted to do that we never got around to – or haven’t, rather. The show goes on, just without me.” He goes on to say that the community should be “patient” with the developers at Arrowhead, because they remain hard-working even when things take longer than fans would like.
Helldivers 2 players are currently awaiting the addition of the Illuminate faction, a race of psychic-wielding aliens. Arrowhead hasn’t officially announced the faction, but recent rumours and leaks certainly seem to suggest the faction is on the way in the game’s next major update.
