Genshin Impact Leak Teases New Dragon Character for Version 5.5

Genshin Impact Leak Teases New Dragon Character for Version 5.5

Key Takeaways

  • Version 5.5 in Genshin Impact may introduce an important dragon character from Natlan lore.
  • The NPC’s ID is ‘Big Dragon,’ and they aren’t scheduled to appear in the game until March 25, 2025.
  • Some fans think the character may potentially be tied to the confrontation between Xiuhcoatl and Xbalanque.

A recent datamine from the Genshin Impact beta reveals that Version 5.5 could be adding an important dragon character from the lore. Natlan is the latest region of Teyvat that opened its doors to the Traveler in Genshin Impact, and while Version 5.1 upped the stakes considerably by pushing the war with the Abyss to the forefront, the draconic forebears of the land were largely relegated to the World Quest series. This is likely to change in Version 5.3.

While the exact details are still kept under wraps, the upcoming Trounce Domain in Genshin Impact will pit players against the reanimated corpse of Xiuhcoatl, once the Pyro Sovereign of Natlan and now a corroded puppet of the Abyss. It should be noted that Xiuhcoatl was slain by Xbalanque at the Great Volcano of Tollan, where his remains still lie to this day. With Version 5.3 not releasing any new zone in Natlan, there is a high likelihood that the Collective of Plenty and the Great Volcano are intended to debut in Version 5.5 instead.

Genshin Impact Reveals Version 5.2 Flagship Event and Rewards

Genshin Impact officially reveals the activities that players can do in the latest Flagship Event, as well as the new Event Weapon reward.

According to HomDGCat, scattered among the files of Version 5.3 is a new NPC ID bearing a rather ominous name: Big Dragon. What makes this particularly interesting is that the NPC is listed for Version 5.5, which isn’t expected to arrive until March 25, 2025. Assuming Version 5.5 launches with a new Natlan map expansion in Genshin Impact, there is a chance that the Big Dragon is in some ways related to that confrontation between Xiuhcoatl and Xbalanque. Alternatively, it could also be tied to the Little One, the tepetlisaur whelp that players adopt upon entering Natlan.

Genshin Impact Could Be Adding an Important Dragon Character in Version 5.5

While the Big Dragon could be referring to Xiuhcoatl or even an entirely new character with ties to the Great Volcano of Tollan, there is another possibility to consider. Version 5.2 was originally rumored to have a Flagship Event set on Dragonspine, with a focus on Albedo and Wanderer in Genshin Impact. Assuming this event was shelved, rather than outright scrapped, it’s possible the Big Dragon refers to a resurrected Durin, whose return was heavily foreshadowed in Version 4.8.

Given the popularity of Neuvillette in Genshin Impact, it’s clear that players want more content tied to dragons and their Sovereigns. Though it remains to be seen who the Big Dragon is referring to, the developers have at least shown a willingness to explore this particular part of the lore. Version 5.3 is expected to launch on January 1, 2025, and will introduce Citlali, Mavuika, and Lan Yan as playable characters. However, it may be some time until the Big Dragon’s identity is confirmed.
