Holland made his Spider-Man debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. Fans love his portrayal that he became a fan-favorite. The audience loved his youthful energy and humor. Following his successful debut, Holland appeared in more MCU films, Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and headlined three standalone films — Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019, and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Tom Holland made a rare change on his Instagram account, which fans believed had something to do with Spider-Man 4.

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are co-producing Spider-Man 4 with the working title “Blue Oasis,” The Cosmic Circus reported. The outlet noted that the title was similar to Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s critically acclaimed comic book series Spider-Man: Blue, which revisited Peter Parker’s romance with Gwen Stacy. Peter and Gwen met and fell in love when he was heading to college. There are rumors that in Spider-Man 4, the superhero might encounter Gwen’s version in Earth-616, which isn’t surprising due to the MCU’s multiverse setup.

There are also rumors that Madelyn Cline is joining Holland and Zendaya in Spider-Man 4. Her casting only fueled speculation that the next Spider-Man movie could feature Gwen. It is still unclear what Cline’s role in the movie will be. Some suggest that she could also play the role of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat. Fans should wait and see. Meanwhile, Holland recently shared that when he read the script of the film, it “lit a fire in me.” “Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we, at times were like bouncing around the living room,” the English actor said. “Like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect, but there [are] a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going. But it’s exciting and I’m really, really excited about it.” Holland is dedicated to delivering the best version of his MCU superhero role and the studio is reportedly supportive. So, fans are likely in for another treat when Spider-Man returns to the big screen.

Bringing back Gwen in Spider-Man 4 will be a good addition to the plot. Marvel and Sony successfully brought back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in Spider-Man 3, so adding old characters to the reunion is a welcome move. Emma Stone previously portrayed Gwen and she appeared in Garfield’s movies. Gwen is a significant character in the Spider-Man lore. Her untimely death took a toll on Spidey’s emotional and mental state and led to a darker phase of the narrative. Green Goblin threw Gwen off the bridge and Spider-Man tried to save her with his web, but the whiplash effect was reportedly what caused her death. Some issues claimed she died from the fall itself. However, Spider-Man blamed himself for the incident. Gwen’s death also showed that superheroes cannot always save everyone; sometimes, they lose those who are dear to them.

Marvel and Sony can introduce a younger actress as Gwen but bringing back Garfield and Stone together could also work. In fact, the latter is probably more appealing to fans. In 2021, there were rumors that Stone’s Gwen would appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which didn’t happen. Maybe this time, Marvel and Stony can finally give fans what they want.

Spider-Man 4 will hit theaters on July 24, 2026.
