Key Takeaways
- Earlier this week, a featurette showing Keanu Reeves as Shadow in Sonic 3 was shared.
- The interview also shows new footage of the movie, including one particularly tease-y shot.
- A very brief scene is shown that seems to confirm Super Shadow teaming up with Super Sonic.
A new interview focused on Keanu Reeves’ role as Shadow in Sonic 3 seems to have accidentally revealed the first look at Super Shadow and Super Sonic.
From the moment Shadow the Hedgehog was first teased in the credits for Sonic 2, fans have theorised that the next film would closely follow the character’s origins and basically act as a retelling of Sonic Adventure 2. Ignoring how many Sonic games that approach skips over, everything we’ve seen of Sonic 3 so far seems to confirm that is indeed the case.

Maria is going to get absolutely wasted in the upcoming threequel.
While there are already some clear differences between Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic 3 (like Shadow wielding a gun), the similarities mean that fans have a long list of story beats they’re expecting to see, like Maria getting shot. The jury’s still out on that one, but a new interview seems to have accidentally confirmed one major moment that’s going to happen.
Earlier this week following the release of the final Sonic 3 trailer, Screen Rant released a behind-the-scenes featurette showcasing Sonic 3’s actors talking about Keanu Reeves as Shadow. In-between the interviews and shots showing Reeves and other actors in the booth, new footage of Sonic 3 is also shown.
While most of the footage isn’t that revealing, there is one shot towards the halfway point of the featurette that teases quite a big moment. As pointed out by Twitter user KellytoyDK, a brief shot is shown of the Space Colony Ark gearing up to fire a massive laser at the Earth, which is presumably piloted by the Robotniks.
As the Space Colony Ark is shown, two golden figures can be seen flying up to it and seemingly trying to stop it. I probably don’t need to tell you this, but this seems like an accidental showing of Super Sonic and Super Shadow for the first time. While it was bound to happen and has been heavily teased in recent trailers, it does seem like a slip-up to have shown it here.
This won’t come as a surprise to anyone familiar with Shadow’s character arc, but this suggests that he and Sonic will eventually stop fighting one another and team up to defeat the two Robotniks. Whether Sonic 3 will follow through on Adventure 2’s ending remains to be seen, so we at least have one big surprise to wait for.
