Niantic has announced the date and theme for the next Pokemon GO Research Day event, which will feature tasks revolving around several Pokemon that turn into Dragon-types later in their evolution lines. As with previous Pokemon GO Research Day events, players can look forward to seeing specific Pokemon appearing more frequently, alongside special challenges players can complete for rewards.
The upcoming Research Day event will be the first of many limited-time activities as part of Pokemon GO‘s new Dual Destiny update. The most recent Research Day was back in October, and featured both regional variants of Yamask for players to acquire. These are a great way for Pokemon GO players to hunt shiny variants, as the featured Pokemon will have increased shiny odds, and completing the related tasks gives players more encounters to take part in.

Pokemon GO Players Are Concerned About Upcoming Feature
Pokemon GO announces a new feature that will soon be available in the game, but players aren’t thrilled about its introduction.
The upcoming Pokemon GO event is called Aspiring Dragons Research Day, and features four Pokemon that all obtain Dragon typing in later evolution stages. The four Pokemon are: Horsea, Skrelp, Trapinch, and Swablu. Players can participate in the limited-time spectacle on December 7 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time. There will be special research tasks for players to complete to encounter more of this curated roster of Pokemon. Players can also purchase a Paid Timed Research Ticket, which will unlock more research tasks which will allow players to encounter even more of the aspiring dragons.
Upcoming Pokemon GO Event Focuses on Aspiring Dragon Pokemon
While the main research event is focused on the curated list of four would-be dragons, several other Pokemon will see an increased spawn rate in the wild during this duration. Players can expect to see more Spearow, Yanma, Carvanha, Dwebble, Crustle, and Binacle while completing the limited-time research tasks. Players may also have a chance of finding a brand-new addition to Pokemon GO‘s roster during their exploration as well, since a concurrent event featuring Sinistea will be wrapping up around the same time.
The Aspiring Dragons Research Day is one of the more unique themes Niantic has put out for these events. While many times, players can find one or two Pokemon in the research spotlight, it’s nice to have a suite of Pokemon to chase, though hunting one specific shiny out of the list may be more difficult. A research-oriented pursuit is also a welcome sight after many raid-focused challenges were on offer in November. Pokemon GO players were unhappy with Wild Raid Passes from the recent limited-time event, so moving to something new is a welcome sight.
