No Man's Sky Finally Reaches 'Very Positive' on Steam After Eight Years

Key Takeaways

  • No Man’s Sky now has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, showcasing its remarkable comeback from a disappointing launch.
  • Hello Games won back players’ approval by consistently updating No Man’s Sky with new content and patches over the years.
  • Recent feedback, player engagement, and new updates like Expeditions highlight the ongoing success and growth of the game.

No Man’s Sky has acquired an overall rating of “Very Positive” on Steam, effectively leaving behind the game’s disappointing 2016 launch. The good news for No Man’s Sky studio Hello Games comes after years of improving the game via post-launch updates.

When No Man’s Sky was first revealed in 2013, it quickly caught the fancy of gamers with its procedurally generated open world and became one of the most anticipated indie titles. However, when the space exploration game finally launched three years later, it received disappointing reviews and lost most of its initially huge playerbase in a short period. Then came one of the most notable comebacks in the history of video games, in which Hello Games won back the favor of players by gradually improving No Man’s Sky with numerous patches and content drops through years. Most recently, the action-adventure title unlocked another indicator of its late but resounding success.

No Man’s Sky Continues Receiving Positive Reviews and Promising Engagement

Over the course of the past several years, No Man’s Sky has not only attracted positive feedback but also experienced growth in engagement time and again. Although these recent bumps in player footfall have been nowhere near its highest concurrent player count of 212K that was achieved at the time of launch, they have shown that Hello Games has been able to roll out engaging content regularly since coming out. Its last such peak came on July 22, with 54,951 players concurrently playing the game, days after the Worlds Part 1 Update was dropped. The studio’s commitment to listening to its community even landed it among the nominees in the Best Community Support category at The Game Awards 2024.

Recently, No Man’s Sky players got access to new Expeditions, bringing fresh challenges and rewards to the spacefaring game. The current lineup of Expeditions is set to last until the end of the Aquarius Expedition on February 5, 2025. Apart from these updates, Hello Games’s Light No Fire is also in the works, which will be another massive open world game.
