When you think of the best zombie games, you typically imagine a ruined world such as the one you can help create in infectious strategy hit Plague Inc. Boasting more than 190 million players since launch, it swept across the world much in the same way as its eponymous pathogen. But in developer Ndemic Creations’ new project, After Inc: Revival, the post-apocalyptic world you’re dropped into is one of beautiful green fields and clear, flowing rivers – even if danger still lurks around every corner. Coming soon to Steam Early Access, you can try it right now on phones.
“What happens after Plague Inc wipes out the world?” Set in the wake of the devastation caused by the Necroa Virus, After Inc: Revival places you into the role of survivors looking to reshape society following the collapse. Exploring the ruins of the old world, you can scavenge resources and begin to set up basic settlements that gradually expand with housing, farms, lumberyards, and so on.
Spreading across a Civilization-style map, Ndemic’s new city-building game adopts ‘mini-4X’ elements as you construct, develop, and manage multiple settlements. That means you’ll need to keep the people happy, determining key factors such as your ruling style and regulations. Will you encourage families to grow, or mandate that your people avoid having children to preserve resources? Can your people afford the luxury of pets and the joy they bring, or is any animal a potential, even essential, food source?
Set in “a beautiful post-apocalyptic United Kingdom,” After Inc will also require you to deal with various crises that spring up, not least of which are the zombie threats that still persist. With ten distinct leaders to choose from at launch, each bringing their own abilities to the table, you’ll have plenty of ways to determine how you approach your attempts to rebuild the world.
After Inc: Revival is out now on Android and iOS devices, and is set to launch on Steam in 2025 via early access. You can wishlist it now if you want to keep track of its arrival. Ndemic notes that the initial campaign is “feature complete,” but says that it wants to continue working on developing additional content over the course of “around a year” of early access.
