How Trader Quest Tiers Work In 7 Days To Die

Completing missions is something that most players will do on a daily basis in 7 Days To Die. Whether the player is new to the game or a seasoned veteran, trader missions are a great way of exploring the map, earning XP, and stockpiling Dukes. Quest tiers can be a bit tricky to understand, but ultimately, they are mission milestones that allow players to unlock new rewards, highest-level quests, and the locations of various traders.

Each trader specializes in a specific set of items, so players should try to find the location of all the traders as soon as possible. This guide will go through all there is to know about traders and their missions.

Trader Specialties

As mentioned, each trader specializes in specific items. While all traders will stock plenty of random items, each trader will focus on their specialty above all else. The item type that each trader specializes in can be seen below:

• Trader Rekt – Food And Seeds
• Trader Jen – Medical Items
• Trader Bob – Vehicles And Tools
• Trader Hugh – Weapons And Ammo
• Trader Joel – Armor And Armor Mods

The books and magazines sold by traders are also influenced by their specialty. For example, Trader Jen is more likely to stock Medicinal Journals than any of the other traders since that particular magazine type is centered around medical care. Because of this, it’s possible to map out a route to purchase the items, books, and magazines that you wish to focus on. Keep in mind that the stock the traders have will depend on factors such as level, game stage, and even your skill point selection.

Each trader has its own biome that he or she can be found in. This can be different if the player is using mods or a custom game, but for the most part, Rekt is located in the pine forest biome, Jen can be found in the burnt forest, Bob hangs out in the desert, Hugh has set up shop in the snow, and Joel is located in the wasteland. For those playing on Navezgane, the trader locations can be seen below:

• Trader Rekt: 566 West 469 North
• Trader Jen: 278 East 244 South
• Trader Bob: 476 East 1033 South
• Trader Hugh: 957 West 1717 North
• Trader Joel: 987 West 1148 South

The locations listed above may vary slightly on the Navezgane map, but they should all be within a few feet of the coordinates shown above.

How Tier Points Work

For the most part, players will begin their playthrough in the forest biome. The game wants players to meet Trader Rekt first. While it doesn’t really matter which trader you meet first, when it comes to activating special missions, there is an order that players must follow:

• Rekt To Jen
• Jen To Bob
• Bob To Hugh
• Hugh To Joel

To start, players will only have access to tier 1 missions. Completing a tier 1 mission will award you with 1 tier point. You’ll need a total of 10 tier points in order to unlock a special mission only awarded by Rekt that will send you to Jen. After completing 10 tier 1 missions, not only will you unlock the special mission that requires you to visit Jen, but you will also unlock some interesting rewards. This includes a bicycle. Unless you already have one, you should consider taking the bicycle as it makes getting around the map much easier.

Rewards aside, you will also unlock tier 2 missions. Tier 2 missions are worth 2 tier points. In order to unlock Jen’s special mission that will show you the way to Bob, you’ll need to earn 20 tier points. To complete a mission tier, you’ll need to earn 10 missions worth of points at the highest tier you have unlocked. So, for Rekt, that’s 10 tier 1 missions, and for Trader Jen, it’s 10 tier 2 missions, and so on. You don’t have to complete the highest-tier missions in order to accumulate points.

For example, if you have completed 10 tier 1 missions for Rekt, you can continue completing tier 1 missions, and you’ll still accumulate points to unlock the next special trader mission. However, since you need to earn 20 points to reach the second special mission, you’ll need to complete 20 tier 1 missions to unlock it. For the most part, it’s best to do the highest-tier missions available to unlock the next trader location as quickly as possible.

As the tiers increase, the missions will get more difficult. However, your game stage also plays a big role in determining how difficult a mission is going to be. So, if you have a lower game stage, then a tier 2 mission shouldn’t be all that difficult to complete. As mentioned at the start of the entry, it doesn’t matter which trader you complete missions for, you will still accumulate tier points. However, once you have enough tier points to unlock the next trader, that mission can only be given by the last trader you unlocked.

Does Mission Selection Matter?

Putting mission tiers to one side, there are a few different types of missions that players can complete:

• Buried Treasure
• Clear
• Fetch
• Fetch & Clear
• Infested Clear
• Activate Power (Night Only)

The overall difficulty of your mission impacts the quality of your reward. However, there are other factors that come into play in determining the quality of the reward you’ll receive. The more points you invest into the perk The Daring Adventurer, the more Dukes you’ll get for completing missions. When maxed out, this perk will grant you the ability to select two rewards upon completing a mission, as opposed to the standard singular reward for completing a mission.

Your game stage influences your reward quality, as does the mission tier. So, if you do a tier 6 mission, and you have a high game stage, then you’ll receive much better rewards than if you complete a tier 1 mission at a lower game stage. That said, after a while, the rewards that the trader hands out aren’t really the main reason for completing missions. The loot you gain for completing missions is typically the best reward. It will depend on your mission selection, but the harder the mission, the better the loot.

If you complete a buried treasure mission, then your reward will be the contents of the treasure chest alongside the reward from the trader. However, if you complete an infested clear mission then you’ll be able to loot a handful of quality containers at the end of the POI, this includes an infested cache. An infested cache will almost certainly contain more valuable items than the trader will hand out as a mission reward.

Because of this, most players opt to complete missions that involve clearing POIs as there is much more loot to be found completing these missions compared to fetch missions and buried treasure missions. That said, it’s important to only select missions that you are confident you can complete. Taking on a mission that is too difficult can result in you not only failing the mission but also having your loot bag spawn inside an area that is hard to enter. The best practice when it comes to completing harder missions is to complete them slowly. Don’t run in all guns blazing as it’s a good way to get yourself killed pretty quickly.
