Frostpunk 2 Content Roadmap Revealed

City-building survival game Frostpunk 2 is set to launch on consoles and receive a number of expansions within the next couple of years, according to a recently unveiled roadmap. Frostpunk 2‘s acclaimed predecessor from 2018 was also released on multiple platforms and offered DLCs.

Developer 11 Bit Studios has provided several updates for Frostpunk 2 ever since the Unreal Engine 5-powered title came out in September. The latest of these is patch 1.20, which delivered changes to Frostpunk 2‘s Utopia mode, added faction events, and addressed some issues, among other things. How Does Frostpunk 2 Compare To The Original?

Frostpunk 2’s shift to a much larger scale made me feel as if I was disconnected with the citizens in my cities. The game itself isn’t bad, but comparing it to the first game, the doom and gloom here is a lot less palpable.

According to a roadmap for Frostpunk 2 that was unveiled recently, the game will receive a free major content update and launch on consoles in 2025. Two expansions for 11 Bit Studios’ hit city builder, identified only as the Spectrum and Aurora DLCs, are expected to be released that year as well. A third unnamed DLC, meanwhile, will come out in 2026, the roadmap showed.

When Will Frostpunk 2 Launch on Consoles?

Frostpunk 2‘s expansions will add something completely new to the game, 11 Bit Studios said. The DLCs for the original Frostpunk, a title still regarded by many as one of the best survival games of all time, introduced additional mechanics, campaigns, maps, technologies, buildings, and even music. 11 Bit Studios noted that the outlined plans for Frostpunk 2 did not fully represent the game’s future content, as work on hotfixes and game improvements will continue.

In the past, 11 Bit Studios confirmed that its latest game would launch on the Sony PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Frostpunk 2 will supposedly come to the console tier of Xbox Game Pass as well upon its release on Microsoft’s gaming machines. Several titles were added to the subscription service in November, including GSC Game World’s long-awaited survival shooter STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

Frostpunk 2 nabbed the Best Gameplay trophy at the 2024 Gamescom Awards. It was also nominated as PC Game of the Year at the most recent Golden Joystick Awards. On OpenCritic, Frostpunk 2 has an average score of 85, making it one of the highest-rated 2024 releases on the review aggregate website. Critics and gamers alike have praised the sequel for offering an overall improved experience compared to its predecessor. They also highlighted Frostpunk 2‘s new mechanics, enhanced complexity, and commitment to providing players with a challenge.

The game takes place 30 years after the apocalyptic blizzard that has taken place in Frostpunk. Earth is still overwhelmed by the neverending frost and harsh, icy climate. You play as the leader of a resource-hungry metropolis where expansion and internal conflicts are an unavoidable reality. It’s up to you to make decisions about your City’s future and face their consequences.

In Frostpunk 2 you can build your City on a new scale by creating entire districts with different purposes. Make sure that all parts of the City work well together as well as research technologies that will set the direction for your citizens’ progress.

NAVIGATE BETWEEN FACTIONS AS A STEWARD As the City grows, creating and passing new laws becomes a more complex matter. The people slowly divide into factions with different, often contradictory visions of the future. The Council is a place where these ideas clash, sometimes violently. It’s your role as a Steward to ensure that the city will not fall because of those conflicts. Manage emerging crises while at the same time steering humanity towards a new destiny.
