I concur with the article’s viewpoint that the Gaming Award primarily serves as a popularity contest, predominantly benefiting large AAA titles, a sentiment echoed and substantiated by Alanah Pearce.

As a hardcore gamer, I dislike The Game Awards because they don’t seem to recognize the best games (for instance, a VR game will likely never win GOTY) but rather promote those that will generate the most clicks. However, The Game Awards should remain as it is because it’s acceptable to have an award show that promotes the next big AAA titles on PlayStation or Nintendo since that’s where most gamers are and will be satisfied with the outcome.
For instance, how often have you been upset with a movie award show because an obscure film that no one watched won Best Picture over a major blockbuster from Disney, Universal, etc.?
If you’re interested in a show that celebrates effort, innovation, and more, consider watching the BAFTA Awards.
