Elon Musk has yet another announcement that is a buzz in the gaming industry. On his social platform X, the SpaceX founder has announced that xAI, his AI startup, will be launching an AI game studio, where he also shares the sentiment of ‘make games great again’.

In response to a tweet by Billy Markus on X, @BillyM2k, criticizing the ideological direction of the gaming industry, Elon Musk commented on the dominance of large corporations in game development. He revealed that his AI company, xAI, is setting up an AI-driven game studio. This aims to return gaming to its roots by reducing corporate influence and focusing on authentic creativity with the use of AI.

Speaking about xAI, the company founded by Elon Musk in March 2023 is an AI startup focused on building artificial intelligence to accelerate human scientific discovery, as the website suggests. Their motto is “to understand the true nature of the universe”. One of its key developments, Grok, was unveiled on November 4, 2023. It also recently launched the xAI API.

Elon Musk himself is a gamer. This came to light through his biography, where he revealed his love of playing the mobile strategy game The Battle of Polytopia. According to this in 2021, Musk reportedly delayed meetings and even had arguments over his addiction to the game. Given how such a fantastic title was created by a small team of Midjiwan, Musk might have been inspired by the same.

As of now, no further details for the same have been unveiled, nor an official announcement via the website. To be fair, despite branding itself as a startup, xAI operates on a massive scale. So, the prospect of it launching a gaming studio echoes the sentiment Musk expressed in his tweet: “Too many game studios are owned by massive corporations.”
