Kadokawa started listing the latest
Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody
manga volume (the 18th), and revealed a
sequel to the anime
is in the works. This new volume ships on December 9, 2024, in Japan.
Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody
is
a light novel series
originally self-published by
Hiro Ainana
on the
Shosetsuka ni Narou
online platform since 2013. It was later acquired by Kadokawa, with compiled volumes released under the Fujimi Shobo Novels imprint — 31 volumes have been published so far, all illustrated by shri. The manga started serialization in 2014, penned by Ayamegumu, initially running in the
Age Premium
magazine, but it was moved to
Monthly Dragon Age
in the following year, after
Age Premium
ceased to be published. The story also spawned two more spin-off manga.
The anime sequel is already confirmed to be a new TV season, but no release date has been announced. The first, and so far only, season aired from January to March 2018. Crunchyroll streamed the 12 episodes as they aired in Japan, and then Funimation (today Crunchyroll) dubbed the series.
What to Expect from Death March New Season
After So Many Years, Future Is Uncertain
When it takes so long for a second season to be announced, it usually means the results didn’t fully meet the initial expectations, but were good enough for other companies to be interested in investing in a new season. It is possible Silver Link and Connect studios won’t return to animate the sequel, but no staff has been announced (it is reasonable to be prepared for changes in the main staff too). The main cast is unlikely to be changed.
Death March
is an isekai harem fantasy (one of the first to be adapted into animation, right at the beginning of the
“isekai anime boom”
). In the plot, Ichiro Suzuki is a programmer working
in the game industry
. His job is to fix bugs in two MMORPGs his company is planning to launch. After overworking during a whole weekend, he wakes up in a different world, which is quite similar to the games’ worlds. His name now is Satou Pendragon, his beta-test nickname, and he is able to access a menu screen. After being ambushed, but luckily winning the battle, he jumps from level 1 to level 310, becoming one of the strongest people in the world/game. Not knowing how to return to his regular life, he decides to go on an adventure in this new universe after forming his own party (as in
a typical isekai harem
, one filled with formerly enslaved girls).
Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody
light novel and adaptation manga are published in English by Yen Press. The anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll, subbed and dubbed.
