It has been two years since the next Captain America movie was announced at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. It was initially titled Captain America: New World Order but underwent a title change in mid-2023. Captain America: Brave New World is the first film without Chris Evans as Steve Rogers aka Captain America. Anthony Mackie will headline the film as Sam Wilson, aka Falcon and the new Captain America. The films should have been done by now, but the actors have been busy doing reshoots for a very important reason.

One Captain America: Brave New World star admitted they had to do reshoots even if they were only months away from the film’s release.

Movie insider Daniel Richtman claims they are doing more reshoots now because the film received another negative test screening. Those who watched the test screenings were not impressed with what they saw. The reception was reportedly mixed negative, with many of them saying the film was “inessential” and “flat,”‘ ComicBookMovie reported. The report received several reactions, with some wondering how they could get the chance to sit in the test screenings. Some were wondering about the budget because reshoots would cost the production more. According to one fan, it would be better to start from scratch with a better script than do reshoots, as the latter could be expensive. Meanwhile, several felt it started on the wrong footing by replacing Evans, the original Captain America. “Cancel it. Or put Chris Evans in it. Those are the only choices to avoid disaster,” one suggested. Another added, “I think the first mistake they made is not putting Captain America in the film. Been all downhill from there.”

Earlier this month, Mackie was spotted shooting new scenes in Los Angeles. There were photos of him from the set circulating on social media. Giancarlo Esposito, who is making his MCU debut in the new Captain America movie, is among the actors who did reshoots. However, he was enthusiastic about going back to the set because it meant wearing his superhero costume again. “The Captain America story, as much as it’s been great to be on set, to shoot it – I’m actually going back to do a little bit more,” Esposito shared during a speaking engagement at Penn State University on November 7. “So excited! I get to put that costume on again, baby!”

Marvel fans were excited when they first heard the Captain America: Brave New World. The promotional events and star-studded cast, including Harrison Ford (as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross), Liv Tyler, and Esposito, added hype to the anticipated film. However, there are some concerns, especially whether it could live up to its predecessors. Evans has played Captain America in multiple Marvel movies, and there’s no doubt some still associate the character with him. The skepticism intensified following the rumors of the negative test screenings and reported extensive reshoots. The recent incident led some to question the show’s stability. Regardless, there is no doubt that the excitement is somehow tied to the legacy of the first Captain America films, and the reshoots and changes in the narrative somehow subdued the initial enthusiasm.
