Cheaters and hackers are an unfortunate part of most multiplayer competitive games. In fact, creating and selling hacks has become a lucrative business, forcing many publishers to send in their legal teams to handle the situation. Along with working on the game itself, developers are forced to weed out these cheaters to ensure that the player base doesn’t suffer.

Ricochet is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s AI-based tool that helps the moderation team to find and ban these cheaters, and it appears to be doing its job. However, no matter what the devs attempt, it seems the flood of cheaters is never-ending. A recent update by the Ricochet team showed some great numbers, but it seems players are still encountering cheaters en masse.
Black Ops 6’s Ricochet Anti-Cheat Isn’t Doing Much Against Cheaters
The Ricochet team recently shared some updates about how the war on cheaters has been going. As of launch, they have found and banned 19,000 accounts since Ranked Play launched. Hourly sweeps are done to ensure that they are constantly removed from Ranked Play as well as leaderboards, and the AI is constantly being trained to get better at its task.
While this all sounds great, it seems the effect isn’t visible to players. Replying to the same update, many complained that they have still come across many accounts that are evidently using hacks, in the form of aimbots, wall hacks, invulnerability, or something else. The sentiment appears to be that it’s the same story with every new release, and the anti-cheat tools seem pretty useless if cheaters can simply return via other accounts.
Of course, the game is still relatively new and, if team Ricochet is to be believed, the AI tool is getting further optimized, the results of this method will only start to show gradually. Since the tool also targets those who use VPN to change their server region, it’s going to take some time to single them out as well.
Unfortunately, those who are well versed with hacks and how to get around these measures are also evolving just as fast as anti-cheat tools. We’ve noticed that multiplayer games have started getting plagued by cheater within days of launch.
