Activision has provided a much-needed update on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Ranked Play, confirming that its Ricochet anti-cheat program has now banned over 19,000 cheaters since the mode launched. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Ranked Play was released on November 21, just one week after the launch of Season 1, but players quickly realized that the competitive game mode was already infested with cheaters and hackers.
Call of Duty developer Treyarch Studios has been developing the series’ Ranked Play mode ever since the days of 2021’s Vanguard, continuing to expand and tweak it throughout the rebooted Modern Warfare series and now with Black Ops 6. While the latest Call of Duty title’s Season 1 update was deployed on November 14, its Ranked Play mode didn’t arrive until one week later, on November 21. Once again, this competitive game mode allowed players to put their skills to the test against the best of the best while under the same ruleset as the Call of Duty League, competing for exclusive rewards with each season. Unfortunately, its launch didn’t go down too well with players due to the abundance of cheaters.

Activision Bans Almost 20,000 Black Ops 6 Ranked Play Cheaters
After almost a full week of cheaters running rampant, Call of Duty‘s anti-cheat team has now addressed the onslaught of hackers who have invaded Black Ops 6 Ranked Play. In a new statement on the Call of Duty Updates Twitter account, Activision confirmed that over 19,000 Ranked Play bans had been issued since the mode launched earlier this month. The studio also said “hourly sweeps” for cheaters are now occurring, alongside improvements to its AI systems with new code optimizations to accelerate the enforcement of new bans.
While this is the first time that Activision has confirmed the number of bans dished out since the mode’s launch, it’s not the first time the studio has addressed the issue. On November 22, Team Ricochet released a new statement regarding Black Ops 6 Ranked Play, stating that it was “adjusting existing thresholds” for Ranked Play, with a more aggressive targeting of suspicious accounts. The team also said it was accelerating replay investigations to review suspicious players, essentially meaning that cheaters should be banned much quicker.
Team Ricochet is clearly working tirelessly to combat the game’s cheaters, but the performance of Call of Duty‘s anti-cheat is far from what was promised earlier this year. Back in October, Activision said it was aiming to ban Black Ops 6 cheaters within one hour of their first match. But as cheaters continue to run rampant in both Black Ops 6 and Warzone Ranked Play, it’s clear that there’s still plenty of work that needs to be done.
