Even though it doesn’t feel like that long ago when Arcane burst onto the scene and finally started to make League of Legends sound appealing to anyone outside its hardcore bubble, the show actually just finished last week with the Season 2 finale. While most fans were very happy (and incredibly devastated) with how it ended, there were some complaints.

Arcane Season 2 Just Made All Of My Gay Dreams Come True

The final act of Arcane leans into queerness with so many of its characters and events.

Putting aside how many characters had a surprisingly brutal and depressing end, some Arcane fans weren’t quite happy with Vi’s portrayal in the second season and felt that she didn’t grow or change much from Season 1. Considering how important a character she is to Arcane as a whole, Vi didn’t end up making as much of an impact in the finale as some hoped. Well, ignoring that scene, anyway.

Arcane Co-Creator Responds To Vi Criticism In Season 2

Now that Arcane has fully wrapped up, series co-creator and showrunner Christian Linke has been responding to fans regarding their questions and criticisms of its two seasons. As pointed out by Simsimmy016 on the Arcane subreddit, Linke recently opened up about the response to Vi and tried to explain why she had less focus and agency.

When asked about the “discontent” regarding Vi’s character arc in Season 2, Linke said that he’s seen that criticism coming from Arcane fans, and noted that it’s true that other characters had more screen time when compared to Vi. Linke explained that the writers were simply interested in exploring other characters aside from Vi and that he didn’t “really know what else to say” to the criticism.

It’s exactly the same people. I think your words are not exactly fair nor accurate, but I understand the point you’re making. – Christian Linke

That being said, Linke has had some interesting responses to fans complaining about Vi on Twitter, such as telling a fan who presumed the writing staff for Season 1 had left that it was the same people and that the point being made wasn’t fair or accurate. Considering how Linke has been so proactive in talking to fans, it’s a shame to see them reaching out like this.
