The Town Hall 17 update is here at Clash of Clans, as this new Town Hall level brings a lot to the table and we have a lot of things to discuss. With this new level, you can explore a range of upgrades, unlock new buildings and defenses, and of course, with the arrival of a new troop and spell, new attack strategies are also something you need to look at with CoC TH17. To help you navigate the journey, my comprehensive Town Hall 17 guide covers upgrade priorities, the best base designs, effective attack strategies, and much more to make your progression smoother in Clash of Clans.
Upgrading Town Hall to Level 17
Just like every other Town Hall upgrade, things are tough at the highest Town Hall, so you need to upgrade and max out your defenses before you jump in. However, a new case here is upgrading to Town Hall 17 brings a major change as the Eagle Artillery will be merged into the Town Hall itself, so no more standalone defense.
This irreversible step requires a Town Hall Level 16 and Eagle Artillery at Level 7 to begin. The upgrade costs 20,000,000 Gold and takes 15 days to complete. With the new system, we have Inferno Artillery as the Town Hall defense, which I will explain in the later sections of the guide.
Town Hall 17: New Unlocked Buildings, Levels, and More
Only two new buildings are unlocked with the Town Hall 17. The rest of them will be upgrades while getting a couple of items such as 1x Archer Tower, 2x Merged Defenses, and 1x Trap, which is kind of underwhelming.
Inferno Artillery
Created by merging the Eagle Artillery with the Town Hall, Inferno Artillery is the Town Hall defense for Level 17. Once you jump into TH17, it cannot be undone. When you look at its gameplay, you can see that it combines the mechanics of the Lava Launcher, Multi-Archer Tower, and Capital Hall. Another scary part is it doesn’t have a blind spot.
The Inferno Artillery shoots four fireballs at once, targeting different enemies. These fireballs do moderate damage, but they leave behind burning areas that damage any enemies standing in them. To upgrade to Town Hall 17, you need to have completed all merged defenses and upgraded the Eagle Artillery to level 7.
- Number of Targets: 4
- Effect Duration: 6.8 seconds
- Max Damage per Second: 75
- Range: 12 tiles
- Damage Type: Multiple Targets
Level | Damage per Second per Target | Damage per Hit per Target | Cost (Gold) | Time |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 40 | 140 | N/A | N/A |
2 | 45 | 157.5 | 10,000,000 | 9d |
3 | 50 | 175 | 14,000,000 | 11d |
4 | 55 | 192.5 | 18,000,000 | 13d |
5 | 60 | 210 | 22,000,000 | 15d |
New Defense: Firesplitter
Although this might not cover the void left behind by the Eagle Artillery, Firesplitter is an awesome new defense. It excels in crowd control by firing molten iron balls that can damage both ground and air units.
The Firespitter shoots bursts of 20 projectiles with slight scatter, which makes it highly effective at close-range troop clusters but at the same time less accurate over long distances. Its shots can hit two units in sequence.
- Range: 16 tiles
- Attack Speed: 0.0625 seconds
- Time Between Bursts: 1 second
- Shots Per Burst: 20 shots
- Damage Type: Multiple targets
Base Stats are given as follows:
Level | DPS | Damage per Hit | Hitpoints | Build Cost (Gold) | Time |

2 | 425 | 49 | 5,000 | 23,000,000 | 16 days |
Supercharges
Once fully upgraded, the Firespitter can be further upgraded with up to two levels of Supercharges for added power.
Charge Level | DPS | Damage per Hit | Hitpoints | Upgrade Cost (Gold) | Time |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 442 | 51 | 5,000 | 12,000,000 | 6 days |
2 | 442 | 51 | 5,250 | 10,000,000 | 7 days |
New Trap: Giga Bomb
The new trap to be part of CoC with the November 2024 update, Giga Bomb is introduced at Town Hall 17 itself. Only one is available to unlock. Designed as a standalone trap, the trap is shaped like a compact red explosive with wheels, and its fuse lights up when triggered. Unlike traditional traps, the Giga Bomb is always visible, so you must take care of its placement while attacking and defending.
Speaking of its use case, it deals with area damage and affects both ground and air units. The Giga Bomb’s key feature is its knockback effect, which can push back or fling certain troops, disrupting their targeting.
- Area of Effect: 4.5 tiles
- Damage Type: Area Splash
- Trigger Radius: 3.5 tiles
- Trigger Housing Space: 18
Level | Damage | Cost (Gold) | Time |
---|---|---|---|

3 | 1,300 | 15,000,000 | 10 days |
Clash of Clans Town Hall 17 Guide: Guide to upgrade priorities
With TH17 now unlocked, CoC players should have gathered sufficient resources to invest in upgrades. Let’s dive into my upgrade priority guide to help you make the most of them.
1. Hero Hall
Since this is a new addition at the time of writing, you’ll need to quickly push Hero Hall through to its max level of 11. This upgrade is essential because it allows you to start levelling up your five Heroes to their new maximum levels. If you are at lower town hall levels (say TH7 + with one Hero slot available), you just have to complete one level upgrade for Hero Hall once you reach TH17 in CoC.
The maximum levels attainable for your heroes are:
- Barbarian King: Level 100
- Archer Queen: Level 100
- Minion Prince: Level 70
- Grand Warden: Level 75
- Royal Champion: Level 50
2. Barracks and Spell Factory
At the time of writing, these will have additional upgrade levels since we have a new Troop and a spell to unlock. Most of the TH 15 and TH16 players can unlock this before getting to TH17, but if you prefer jumping into the latest Town Hall in CoC and then working on upgrades, this should be another priority check you need to do. These new items might not help you a lot, but help you try out new troop combinations.
3. Defenses
TH17 according to me is a good balance between attack and defense, so building your defences up becomes a necessity. Especially with the introduction of two powerful new defenses: the Firespitter and Inferno Artillery.
Merged Defenses and Firesplitters are prioritized while you can slowly manage your Town Hall upgrades. Focus on levelling up other newly placed defenses afterwards. Don’t forget the traps, Giga Bomb, Black Mine, and Giant Bomb can be placed, keep a builder free and instantly finish these.
4. Laboratory
The Laboratory plays a crucial role in upgrading your troops and spells, helping your army stay strong enough to handle tougher defenses at this level. When deciding what to upgrade first, it’s a good idea to focus on your preferred strategy. Depends on whether you’re into farming for resources or going to war, of course, stick to one approach and prioritize upgrades that complement it.
Best CoC Town Hall 17 best attack strategies
1. Dragon Smash
Sorry for the pathetic name I’ve come up with, but this attack does smash all the bases. The combination is simple, Dragons (maxed out of course), Balloons, and a couple of Rage and Clone spells to push up the attack. Spell placement becomes important here, you need to time them well and see where you’ll gain an advantage while attacking so that the Heroes won’t get wasted.
You can also try out the HyDra variant of the same, having Dragon Riders + Dragons work together, which is still a fun combo to use in the Town Hall 13/14. The combination remains the same, use the Minion Prince instead of the Barbarian King, and clear out the outliers to create an opening.
2. Yetis and Throwers
Let’s go for a strong ground attack strategy here, using Yetis and Throwers with a small tank like Ice Golems. Start by deploying Ice Golems and a line of Yetis along the base. Use the King, Queen, and Warden, followed by a Log Launcher to break open the defenses. Protect your Log Launcher with the Warden’s ability and freeze key defensive structures like the Monolith or Ricoccet Cannon.
The strategy relies on spell management, so keep an eye on the right time to use Rages, Freeze, and Jump spells to maintain momentum through the base. The Revive spell is particularly useful here as it can help preserve hero abilities and maintain pressure in the attack.
3. Root ‘n Throwers
I came across this strategy that uses Throwers, Root Riders, and Revive Spells, and upon trying, this is a very strong attack. The Root Riders help your main troops move through the base, while Throwers support from the back. Timing is important, so keep the Throwers protected as the Root Riders clear the way for the rest of the army.
Use the Grand Warden’s ability early to protect your army from heavy damage. Revive Spells are crucial to this strategy, giving heroes like the King or Royal Champion another chance to help. Focus Revive Spells where they matter most, like bringing back the Royal Champion to take out defenses while others distract.
