Key Takeaways
- Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has already become the best-selling game in the series, in terms of lifetime US dollar sales.
- An impressive launch has seen Sparking Zero become the second best-selling game in October, and the fourth-best-selling game for the whole of 2024.
- It’s also managed to become Bandai Namco’s third best-selling game in its entire history, trailing only Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero fans have been on a rollercoaster ever since the game launched back in October, swiftly becoming the most popular fighting game on Steam shortly after release, before losing around 90 percent of its playerbase just as quickly. Despite all that, publisher Bandai Namco has been boasting about the game’s sales, as over 3 million copies were shifted in just 24 hours.
Bandai Namco called the sales of the game “outstanding” earlier this month, but didn’t give away any clues as to just how good they were. Well, now that October has been and gone, we have a better picture thanks to Circana video game industry analyst Matt Piscatella, who recently claimed on Bluesky that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero managed to become the best-selling game in US lifetime dollar sales in the entire series in just a single month.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Is Already The Best-Selling Game In The Series
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s impressive launch apparently made it the second best-selling game in October, with only Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 ahead. It’s also apparently managed to claim the title as the fourth best-selling game of the entire year, with only Helldivers 2, EA Sports College Football 25 and the previously mentioned Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 above it.

It’s also been a pretty huge win for Bandai Namco as a publisher too. Piscatella explains that even though Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero had been on store shelves throughout just October when these stats came in, it’s already become the third best-selling Bandai Namco game in the publisher’s entire history, with just Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring sitting above it.
Those are some absolutely staggering numbers for a Dragon Ball game, and proof that the series is arguably more popular than it’s ever been. Unfortunately, a lot of the initial hype for Sparking Zero has died down in recent weeks, with the game’s most recent 24 hour peak player count sitting at 6,549. That’s a massive drop-off from its initial 122,554 all-time peak player count, though the release of some promised DLC next year should pull some back.
Considered part to the Budokai Tenkachi series, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is an in-development arena fighter developed by Spike Chunsoft and published by Namco Bandai.
