PlayStation Portal Will Reportedly Be Available In Black Soon

PlayStation Portal Will Reportedly Be Available In Black Soon

Key Takeaways

  • PlayStation is reportedly preparing to reveal a black version of the Portal very soon.
  • The rumored new color option will potentially join black versions of the DualSense Edge, Explore Earbuds, and Elite Headset.
  • The Portal is currently only available in white, and the grey anniversary edition is sold out.

PlayStation has really been upping its game recently when it comes to color options for the PS5‘s accessories, and various leaks building to what appear to be plans for a showcase or State Of Play indicate that will continue through the end of 2024 and into 2025. Joining the growing list of rumored new PS5 accessory options is talk of an alternative color option for the PlayStation Portal.

PlayStation released the Portal last year and the device immediately became very hard to come by, selling out everywhere. The same applies to the grey 30th anniversary edition it released earlier this month. Until now, the original white option and the anniversary edition have been the only color options available. However, dealabs has reported a new, permanent color option will be revealed soon.

At least one site still has the anniversary DualSense in stock, you just have to buy it with the Doom Anthology.

According to dealabs, PlayStation is planning to reveal a black version of the Portal very soon. The report comes just two days after the same site claimed there’s a black DualSense Edge, Pulse Explore Earbuds, and Pulse Elite Headset being readied for a big reveal. It makes a lot of sense that PlayStation might have a matching Portal too, and that an all new range of black PS5 accessories will be revealed all at the same time.

A release date for the black Portal and everything else in the potential new range hasn’t been revealed, but dealabs does note that the black Portal will cost $199.99, the same price as the white version. Good to know as the grey anniversary edition was slightly more expensive at $219.99. Speaking of, if you’re still keen to try and bag yourself a grey Portal, it’s rumored the anniversary accessory will be restocked either this week or next week.

Nothing is official until PlayStation confirms it, of course, but dealabs doesn’t tend to miss when it comes to predicting PlayStation reveals. On top of the range of black accessories and an anniversary Portal restock, it also reported this week that Helldivers 2 will be getting its own DualSense. Astro Bot and Concord got their own controllers over the summer, but Helldivers 2 still doesn’t have its own DualSense design.

If all of the above is accurate, then all signs point to a potential reveal on December 3, 2024. The Play Has No Limits trailer above features that date which, with the anniversary of the PS1’s launch, some believe will be the date on which PlayStation holds its next event. PlayStation launched an anniversary section on its website this week confirming, among other things, that the PS2 sold 160 million units.
