This particular franchise of movies has been met with mixed success both critically and commercially, with some movies performing brilliantly while others have flopped. Now, Kraven the Hunter director JC Chandor has opened up about Sony’s Spider-Man Universe while pitching for people to check out the upcoming film.

Morbius and Madame Web were both met with negative reviews and didn’t perform at the box office, which has led to question marks over the long-term sustainability of Sony’s Spiderverse. How Did Kraven The Hunter Get His Powers?

Sony is bringing Sergei Kravinoff to the big screen for the first time, but his unique set of powers seems to come from a new source.

Chandor told ComicBook.com, “I don’t want to get too into the nitty-gritty of it, but here’s what I would say: for me as a filmmaker, my number one goal, especially, quite frankly, over the last couple of years where you guys are deep in this world … some of the fans out there, a lot of the fans, were upset with certain decisions and certain outcomes [of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe]. Then, with other films, they’ve gone on to be tremendous successes. So, there’s been there’s been a mixed success rate. People have got to give us a chance to come out and support this film and literally try to wash away some of the other stuff that’s happened. Give our film a chance.”

There is some hope for fans of the franchise, given that Kraven the Hunter features a character that fans are more familiar with, while another popular Spider-Man villain is being featured in the form of Rhino. Chandor appears to be confident that the film can deliver as he explained, “I think they’ll realize that we’ve done everything we can to give them a pretty fun story. You’ll see when the movie’s over, there’s potential for a lot of things to happen. But my goal was to isolate our movie, protect it, and just tell a good damn story. And then we’ll have opportunities to do a lot of fun things.”

Chandor’s call to arms for moviegoers to give the upcoming film a chance highlights the lack of confidence that people will be rushing to check out Kraven the Hunter. However, the fact that he has faith in the movie he has made is a good thing, and if it does deliver, then there will undoubtedly be strong word of mouth to encourage people to give it a chance.

Sony’s Venom trilogy have all performed well, and while they might not be talked about on the same level as Marvel’s Spider-Man films, they have certainly managed to maintain a consistent audience. Sony is effectively working with one arm tied behind its back due to the lack of Spider-Man, who is always going to be the character that attracts audiences due to his global appeal. However, if Kraven the Hunter can deliver a quality story with good acting performances, there is no doubt that people Sony will be able to turn the tide on its own Spiderverse.
