How To Maximize Crop Yields

One of the best ways to make a sustainable income in Farming Simulator 25 is to ensure that the crops you plant have the maximum possible yield you can get. Planting large fields will obviously yield more crops, but this can get unsustainable in the long term when you start looking after animals and buying production lines.

As such, there are a few ways that you can make sure you get the best yields, even when you use smaller fields. These are the surefire ways that you can maximize your crop yields without having to expand your farmland too quickly and without the need to buy more seeds.

Fertilize Your Crops After Planting

Fertilizing your crops is the best way to increase their yields. You can apply different types of fertilizer to your crops, and you’ll need to do so after you’ve planted them. Fertilizer can increase your crop yield by up to 23%, and you can even fertilize twice on the same crops.

There are two different types of fertilizer, namely solid and liquid (slurry), and you’ll need different types of equipment to use each. Solid fertilizer is a little simpler to use than liquid, because some fertilizers for slurry require an extra sprayer attachment in order to spread the fertilizer on your crops. However, it’s also worth noting that manure is a type of solid fertilizer that needs special equipment to spread.

You can either buy fertilizer from the shop as well, or you can collect slurry and manure from your animals on your farm, depending on the type of buildings you use for them. As a result, it’s best to invest in manure-specific fertilizers so that you can use what you get from your animals and save money that way.

Lime Your Fields Before Planting

Liming your fields is another great way to ensure your crops grow properly and give you maximum yield. You need to lime fields before you plant crops, and generally speaking, they need to be re-limed every three harvests. As a result, it’s not something that will take up a ton of your time, and it can increase your yield by up to 15%. You can go into your map menu and select the Lime option under Soil Composition to check whether your fields need lime.

In terms of equipment, you’ll need to purchase a special spreader to attach to your fertilizer. Right now, the K105 Fertilizer Spreader is the only available option in the shop that supports lime spreading, and it’ll do the job. As for the lime itself, you can either get it from a lime station or purchase it from the shop.

Remove Weeds (Weeds Reduce Crop Yield)

Weeds are arguably the worst pest in Farming Simulator 25, because they can grow quickly and will significantly reduce your crop yield if you don’t deal with them. There are three different ways you can deal with weeds on your farm with equipment you can find in the shop:

1. Keeping up with your weeds with a weeder: This equipment is great if you are able to remove small weeds as they appear, but it can become problematic when the weeds grow. Weeders are not able to remove larger weeds, so unless you’re really on top of everything, it may not be the best option.
2. Using a hoe to remove weeds: Hoes are the middle-ground of weed removal, as they will help with weeds that have grown past the smaller stage. Overall, it’s the best option — but you need to make sure you keep on top of weeding.
3. Using herbicide: Herbicide is necessary when your weeds get out of control, but it does come with a small yield penalty either way. Herbicide, therefore, becomes a necessary evil instead of something you’d want to have available on your farm. At the end of the day, don’t let your weeds spread!

Roll Your Fields After Cultivating

You can roll your fields after you’ve cultivated them, and this will increase your yield by about 2.5%. The other advantage of rolling fields is that it will push down smaller rocks that have popped up on the farmland, making it less likely that your harvester will be damaged when the crop is ready.

You can find rollers in the shop under Yield Improvements. There are only two available, and the more expensive version — the LandRoller 591A — can roll your fields twice as quickly. So, overall, it’s a valuable asset to get once you have the ability to do so.

Mulch Before Planting New Crops

Some crops leave behind a kind of stubble after you’ve harvested them, and this stubble can be mulched for an extra 2.5% yield increase. You need to use it before you cultivate the field again, and the next set of crops you plant on that farmland will enjoy the yield increase.

You can find mulchers in the Farming Simulator 25 shop under Soil Cultivation, and there are two types. One is used mainly for olive and grape mulching, while the others are for general mulching of crops that leave behind the stubble you want to get rid of.
