Destiny 2 Disables Popular Exotic and Plans Nerfs For High Damage Super

Key Takeaways

  • Warlock’s exotic Ballidorse Wrathweavers are disabled due to a high-damage bug.
  • Titan’s Sentinel Shield super is also receiving a nerfs in mid-December due to a damage bug.
  • Ultimately, the community is divided about Bungie’s handling of the situation which allows Titans to continue using the super.

Bungie announced that the popular Warlock exotic, Ballidorse Wrathweavers, has been disabled due to a high damage bug, while the Titan’s Sentinel Shield super will be receiving nerfs later in December. As a live service game, Destiny 2 is constantly changing through content updates and patches, though with a game as large as this, sometimes these hotfixes have unintended effects.

Alongside the start of Act 2 for Episode Revenant, Bungie released a major mid-season update for Destiny 2. One of the biggest changes and adjustments made to Destiny 2 was buffing roaming supers, many of which had been left unused for years in favor of stronger burst supers like Golden Gun or Nova Bomb. While the patch breathed new life into certain player builds, it apparently had unintended side effects to certain subclasses.

News has recently spread that Shadebinder Warlocks, when using the Ballidorse Wraithweavers exotic gaunlets, are able to output an insane amount of damage, thanks to a returning bug involving damage over time. Essentially, players were able to one shot most bosses in the game, which caught the eye of Bungie developers, who quickly disabled the exotic. Unfortunately, not much else in terms of a plan were specified, only that more details would be provided at a later date, so for now, Warlocks are basically out of luck in the short term.

Destiny 2 Planning Nerfs to Sentinel Shield and Ballidorse Wrathweavers

In addition to Warlocks, Bungie also highlighted an issue with the Titan’s Sentinel Shield super, which is currently outputting damage at a much higher rate than intended. While using the melee attack during Sentinel Shield, players are dealing significant damage, though unlike Warlocks, Bungie is planning a mid-December fix by reducing the damage, though it will still be higher than it was prior to the recent Destiny 2 Version 8.1.5 update.

The announcement of both nerfs in close succession has left the community divided about how Bungie is handling both situations. While Destiny 2 has examples of broken gear being left alone, Warlock players are disappointed that their exotic is immediately disabled, while Titan players get to enjoy their bug for another few weeks. However, from a game health standpoint, addressing the Warlock issue quickly makes sense, considering the potential it has to severely break the game, trivializing intended tough activities within seconds.
