Larian Studios has just announced Patch 8, a 2025 update to Baldur’s Gate 3 that will add crossplay between all available platforms, one new subclass for each of the game’s twelve existing classes and photo mode.
The new subclasses for each class are as follows: Bard (College of Glamour), Barbarian (Path of Giants), Cleric (Death Domain), Druid (Circle of Stars), Paladin (Oath of the Crown), Fighter (Arcane Archer), Monk (Drunken Master), Ranger (Swarmkeeper), Rogue (Swashbuckler), Sorcerer (Shadow Magic), Warlock (Hexblade) and Wizard (Bladesinging).
“Expect new abilities, animations, VFX, summons and cantrips, and unique voiced dialogue lines for the Oathbreaker Knight with written reactivity for Oathbreakers, along with a touch of homebrewing on certain actions to enhance your role-playing experience,” writes Larian in a community update.
Drunken Monk
Yes, you read the Monk’s subclass correctly. You’ll now be able to drink alcohol straight from your inventory to harness the power of the Drunken Fist. In this iteration of Drunken Master, you’ll be able to share your alcohol with your opponents, before turning the tables and taking advantage of their drunken state. A lot of the other new subclasses are as exciting, adding a unique spin to each of the game’s classes. Personally, I’ve been wanting to play a Dark Urge death domain cleric for a while. Sort of like Shadowheart, but less sardonic and more murderous.
The upcoming addition of crossplay will apply to every platform that Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on, allowing Xbox players to play with those on PlayStation, PC players with those on Macintosh, and so on. There will also be full cross-progression, meaning you can continue your adventures in Faerun across different devices.
Larian also plans to add a photo mode to the game, complete with an adorable selfie camera. You’ll be able to do a lot in this new mode, including setting up unique scenes, messing around with the lens and post-processing effects and adding frames.
Larian is looking to stress test Patch 8 with the community in January, with an eye to releasing the patch later in the year.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the long-awaited next chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series of RPGs. Developed by Divinity creator Larian Studios, it puts you in the middle of a mind flayer invasion of Faerûn, over a century after the events of its predecessor.
