A new manga by creator Taishi Tsutsui is now being serialized in Shonen Jump. In the author’s comment section, Tsutsui stated that he plans to work hard to deliver “tons of fun mysteries” to readers.
The new story is titled Syd Craft: Love is a Mystery, and it is a detective story. Syd Craft is indeed a well-known detective who can solve most anything. But he is not really interested in that. Syd doesn’t want mysteries, he wants love, and this is a subject he does not master. It’s not that his love interests get killed, it’s that they set up dates with him to have an alibi.

Bokuben: We Never Learn
The author’s most famous work is very different from this new one
Taishi Tsutsui is mostly known for We Never Learn, also known as Bokuben, a manga he serialized from 2017 to 2020. Bokuben is a bit different from his new work. It’s a harem series taking place in high school. Nariyuki Yuiga starts tutoring three girls, who are genius in one subject but terrible at others. Yuiga is initially doing it in order to be able to get a university scholarship.
So he has to teach different subjects to them (and by the end of the day, he basically teaches all the subjects). The catch is that all the girls start developing feelings for him, and he also develops feelings for each of them. Who he ends up with is actually up to the reader.
Bokuben spawned an anime adaptation by studios Silver Link and Arvo Animation. It is written by Go Zappa, who also worked on animations such as Ahiru no Sora, Moriarty the Patriot and Kengan Ashura. Yoshiaki Iwasaki was in charge of the direction, and this is probably one of his most known works. Iwasaki also worked on series such as Miss Monochrome The Animation and Escha & Logy no Atelier.
Syd Craft brings a different premise from successful Bokuben, so fans might be excited to see Tsutsui doing a totally different thing. Despite that, in a way, the two stories are about romance, so those who like how the author develops characters and relationships might already have a good idea about what to expect from this series (and we could actually feel a potential harem coming in chapter 1). We will still have to see what he is planning for the story, which begins as a mystery comedy with a light tone.
