The Micro ATX form factor is a sensible way to build a compact system without compromises. Compatible components are also generally cheaper than parts needed to fill an even smaller Mini ITX case. Thermaltake’s The Tower 300 is the best example of how spacious a downsized case can be. Its octagonal shape allows for an unobstructed view of gaming PCs. Also, it’s more generous with cooling and radiator support than some mid-towers. For Black Friday, The Tower 300 is selling for an all-time low price at Newegg.
While most buyers imagine a tower-shaped PC being a mid-tower case, Thermaltake’s case takes up a smaller footprint. Even so, builders can place an AIO liquid cooler radiator up to 420mm long on its right side. Owners are free to install up to eight fans scattered around the chassis. By default, the case ships with a pair of CT140 fans on its top side to exhaust rising hot air. These blowers generate tremendous airflow without an abundance of noise. A bevy of removable dust filters helps keep cooling configurations running optimally.
The Tower 300 accepts Mini ITX motherboards, but its size is more appropriate for Micro ATX boards. When installing the motherboard, builders won’t encounter the frustrations of working within a compact chassis. The case’s modular nature means it’s possible to strip it down to its essentials. Most importantly, the front and side panels lift off without a screwdriver. A removable tray makes securing radiators or fans to the case outside the chassis possible as well.
Limiting the size of graphics cards and providing adequate cooling for them are the downfalls of many smaller cases. Fortunately, The Tower 300 is roomy enough for a 400 mm GPU, although the longest cards require removing the power cover, complicating cable management. As a result, buyers can use the top graphics cards and CPUs in their gaming build without needing a bulky mid-tower case, even if a few conveniences need to be sacrificed.
Since The Tower 300 is so heavily discounted on Black Friday, buyers may have some extra money for upgrades. Thermaltake offers several optional parts, including an LCD screen that pops into the bottom of the front panel. This display can show system temperatures or a custom animated graphic. Additionally, an available horizontal stand may tempt gamers with large enough desks.
There isn’t another option on the market with this Thermaltake case’s unique design and aesthetics. However, The Tower 300 isn’t the only Micro ATX case discounted for Black Friday. Dual-chamber cases are in vogue, and the Corsair iCue Link 2500X devotes an entire section to hiding unsightly cables and includes two RGB fans.
