The Best Villages In Monster Hunter

You know and love the mainline Monster Hunter games, but did you know there’s a whole bunch of spin-offs too?

The villages represent a major half of the monster hunter experience. This is where all your setup takes place, building up armor and weapons to use and even managing items you harvested while in the locale. Most villages also offer farms where you can gather items for crafting and combinations needed for hunts.

10 Kokoto Village

Village Of Beginnings

Kokoto Village

Appearance

Monster Hunter (G), Monster Hunter Freedom, Monster Hunter Generations (Ultimate)

Facilities

Kokoto Farm (MHF1), Training School (MHF1), Gathering Hall (MHF1)

NPCs Encountered

Kokoto Village Chief, Minegarde Sweethearts, Hell Hunters, Lovestruck Hunter, Several Kokoto Villagers, Legendary Gunner, Traveling Merchant, Kokoto Merchant, and Peddling Merchant.

Kokoto Village is the first village introduced in the franchise. The settlement is located in the countryside, not too far from the ruins of Schrade and the Forest & Hills Locale. The Chief of the village gives you the offline quests that you would start with, and once you defeat the main threat creature, you are allowed to pull the Legendary Hero’s sword from a pedestal behind your home.

In the original Monster Hunter, this village didn’t have a farm, a Felyne kitchen, or a gathering hall. This left the village very bare bones compared to future iterations and made the grind of the first Monster Hunter even more tedious than it already was. Minegarde was the online hub instead until a hall was added in Monster Hunter Freedom. MHF1 was where a majority of the mainstay elements in future villages started to show up.

9 Elgado Outpost

Guards Of The Kingdom

The Royal Elgado Outpost in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak.

Appearance

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak

Facilities

Palico/Palumute corner, Dango Meal Tables, Forge, Admiral’s meeting

NPCs Encountered

Admiral Galleus, Dame Fiorayne, Dame Luchika, Sir Jae, Arlow, Bahari, Minayle the Blacksmith, and Princess Chichae

Elgado Outpost is a reformed station where the knights of the Kingdom are temporarily positioned while investigating strange occurrences in the ruins of the Citadel. This territory was formerly part of the kingdom before Malzeno and other dangerous monsters destroyed it. It takes over Kamura as the main setting during the Sunbreak expansion.

Although it’s smaller than Kamura Village, Elgado makes up for it by having everything you need available for you close by, from talking to NPCs to accessing the closer facilities. Elgado is also where you learn several new mechanics added into the gameplay of Rise, with the NPCs joining in hunts as followers and an additional loadout to use for Switch Skills.

8 Bherna Village

Host Of The Wycademy

Bherna Village in Monster Hunter Generations.

Appearance

Monster Hunter Generations (Ultimate)

Facilities

Bistro, Palico Square, Hunter’s Hub

NPCs Encountered

Bherna Elder, Bherna Gal, Chief Researcher, Meowstress, d’Artanyan, Guild Manager, Wycademy Gal, and Gourmew Chef

Bherna Village is the first and main village setting in Monster Generations. It’s also the current base hub of the Wycademy, an organization of scholars and researchers your hunter is affiliated with. During the events of the game, you will explore the wildlife of the Jurassic Frontier and also visit three other villages that are assailed by the fated four, which are the flagship monsters of the game.

Bherna village itself is connected to a Palico training center, the Wycademy hub that includes the multiplayer questlines, and a plethora of disgruntled researchers who were yanked out of their positions to be clerks and smiths due to a lack of workers with them. In Generations Ultimate, the Wycademy has expanded to include the Soaratorium, its portable station that you can get to from the Bherna region.

7 Moga Village

Homely Port By The Sea

Moga Village in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

Appearance

Monster Hunter Tri, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

Facilities

Moga Farm, The Three Fishing Vessels, Expeditions on the Deserted Island.

NPCs Encountered

Village Chief, Chief’s Son, Argosy Captain, Fishmongress, Guild Sweetheart, Wyverian Artisan, Itinerant Cook, Head Farmer, and Cha-cha with Kayamba

Moga Village is a small fishing port off the coastline of an archipelago in the oceans of the Old World. When earthquakes begin to ravage the community, the Guild sends you to investigate the incidents, leading to conflicts between the Lagiacrus and the ancient Elder Dragon Caedeus. This was the first Monster Village in which the quests are interconnected to the narrative as you try to save the village from the quakes and the monsters that cause them.

The Moga Village has an interesting mechanic, where you can travel to the wilds of the island locale during specific times, so you can hunt freely and gather materials without the limits of a time limit or the quest you are engaged in. Daytime is generally low-rank monsters and materials, and nighttime is high-rank. Other Monster Hunter installments adopt a similar version of these optional expeditions.

6 Val Habar

Village Of The Sun

Val Habar in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

Appearance

Monster Hunter 4 (Ultimate)

Facilities

Gathering Hall, Caravan spots for forging, cooking, and the Wycoon

NPCs Encountered

Caravaneer, Guildmarm, the Man, Little Miss Forge, Street Cook, Wycoon, Ace Palico, Ace Hunters

Val Habar is a quaint port that is considered the meeting grounds of new comrades and old friends. This is where you meet the Capital C Caravan—a band of interesting characters that follow you throughout your journey. Their narrative is a part of the offline quests you undertake from Guildmarm as you travel around.

Val Habar connects straight to the Gathering Hub for online quests, and it also seems close to one part of the Everwood, a randomized environment where you can hunt certain monsters that don’t appear in normal quests. Many of the NPCs you encounter in Val Habar are fairly amusing characters with conversational jokes that rub shoulders with the fourth wall and parody the series’ conventions.

5 Kamura Village

Village Of The Forge

Kamura Village in Monster Hunter Rise.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

Appearance

Monster Hunter Rise (Sunbreak)

Facilities

Forge, Hub, Training Grounds, Tea shop, Buddy Scout facility

NPCs Encountered

Hinoa, Minoto, Fugen the Elder, Utsushi, Yomogi, Hamon the Smith, Kagero the Merchant, Iori, Rondine the Trader, Kogarashi, and Guild Master Hojo

Kamura Village is the lovely hub station of your hunter and the characters they’re affiliated with. Known for its Tatara steel and forging techniques, Kamura is popular for its tourist appeal and the palamutes that hunters can recruit as partners on the hunt. Even Rondine, the trader from a faraway Kingdom, couldn’t help but be charmed with the village.

However, every fifty years, the village suffers a cataclysmic event. Stampedes of monsters charge through the territories of Kamura in what is known as a Rampage. These Rampages blend different species, from the local Tetranodon to Diablos and Anjanaths. Withstanding these Rampages and discovering their origins are a big part of the Kamura storyline.

4 Astera

Home Of The Commission

Astera, the home of the commission in Monster Hunter World.

Appearance

Monster Hunter (Iceborne)

Facilities

Tradeyard, Workshop, Canteen

NPCs Encountered

The Handler, Commander, Field Team Leader, Meowscular Chef, Second Fleet Master, The Seeker, The Huntsman, The Tracker, The Admiral, Hub Lasses, Aiden, Serious Handler

Astera is the main base of operations for the Fleets of the Research Commission and was built by the First Fleet fifty years ago. Its purpose is to be the staging ground for research and investigations on the mysterious movements of Elder Dragons that have been migrating to the New World. Astera is stationed between the Ancient Forest and the Wildspire Waste. Both locales offer a lot of introductory moments for newcomers to the Fifth Fleet.

Astera has three different spread-out levels, with a majority of the resource management and commerce being on the first floor, the canteen for food, the forge for weapons and armor on the second floor, and the multiplayer hub being on the very top floor. Astera has an intriguing aesthetic, a settlement made from the combined parts of multiple fleet ships that represents the commission’s enduring nature and gives a feeling of frontier adventure in the setting.

3 Dundorma

Home Of The Guild

Dundorma in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

Appearance

Monster Hunter Dos, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Facilities

Singer stage, fishing area, Tavern, Elder Hall, Foundry

NPCs Encountered

His Immenseness, the Professor, Professor’s assistant, Master of Defense,

Dundorma is considered the birthplace of the modern guild system, the main organization from which every hunter needs acknowledgment and license to hunt monsters legally. They are also found relatively close to the ruins of Schrade and are a constant target of Elder Dragon attacks, from the wind tempest Kushala Daora to the elusive Gogmazios.

There is a spot in a stage room where you can hear a Wyverian songstress singing beautiful songs in her native language of the world. Many are original songs from MH4U and MHDos. There is another unique NPC that’s popular in this region. He is the Guild’s main boss and could be its founder and the ruler of Dundorma; his Immenseness. He is an old but very large Wyverian with a history of fighting giant elder dragons.

2 Pokke Village

Tundra Home By The Steppe

Pokke Village in monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

Facilities

Farm, Blacksmith and General Store, Guild Hall, Training Ground, Mystery Cave

NPCs Encountered

Pokke Village Elder, Treshi, Tenya, Nekoht, Guild Girls,

One of the biggest independent villages during release, Pokke Village is considered the golden standard in Monster Hunter villages and hub zones. Along with having fairly quaint music that reflects the soothing, nurturing feeling of the village, several stations can keep you occupied away from hunting and forging tools for the next quest.

Every Monster Hunter Game In Chronological Order

Monster Hunter continues to be well and alive after almost two decades. With so many titles, it can be confusing to know how to play them in order.

The biggest element of the village that keeps you engaged outside of hunts is the farm, a place that gets bigger and bigger the more you add to it. There are several points for mining and an option to send a Felyne into a cave with various types of bombs. There are also several fishing points, farming stations, and a tree to knock insects out with a hammer. There’s also a strange cave with a large Fatalis sword that you can mine for several parts.

1 Seliana

New Frontier Of The Commission

Seliana, the new outpost in the Hoarfrost Reach in Monster Hunter World Iceborne.

Appearance

Monster Hunter World Iceborne

Facilities

Steamworks, Canteen, Forge, Gathering Hub

NPCs Encountered

The Handler, Field Team Leader, Second Fleet Master, The Seeker, The Huntsman, The Tracker, The Admiral, Hub Lasses, Aiden, Serious Handler

When the expansion of Monster Hunter World kicked off, the cast and crew of the Research Commission found the Hoarfrost Reach and established a new base in the landmass. This is Seliana, your new home away from Astera, and is the main location for most of the plot events in the MHW Iceborne. Seliana takes some queues from Astera and is a much more compact, easier-to-navigate version of the old base.

A new addition to the base that is designed around giving you all kinds of goodies is the Steamworks. This is a minigame that randomizes certain rewards and quantities as you add fuel to the steam machine. Many NPCs that inhabited Astera also went into Seliana while searching for the mysteries of the Old Everwyrm and the discovery of the Guiding Lands later on.
