The Witcher 4, known under the codename Project Polaris, has entered the next phase of its development. As revealed by its director, Sebastian Kalemba, Polaris is now in full-scale production.
In this announcement, Kalemba refers to The Witcher 4 as part of the “upcoming Witcher Saga”, further separating it from the first three games. With this in mind, it’s looking increasingly likely that we’ll play as a new protagonist, perhaps seeing Ciri take the lead.

As Kalemba explains, this means there are still “new challenges just around the corner” for the devs, so we shouldn’t expect to see much from the project anytime soon. Still, it does seem that things are moving along nicely, as this progression is in line with CD Projekt Red’s forecast at the start of the year.
Alongside this reveal, CDPR has also shared a breakdown of how many developers are working on each of its titles. Here, we can see that Polaris has the largest team by far, with Project Orion – a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 – in a distant second.
In the meantime, we’re living off scraps of information. Most recently, it was spotted that an actor had included The Witcher 4 in their resume, suggesting that filming had either started or would be starting soon. At the very least, it shows that casting has begun, which might give us some further details about the game if more actors reveal that they’re in it.
The main man himself, Doug Cockle, has hinted that he’ll reprise his role as Geralt. However, even if he does, his wording suggests that he won’t be the lead this time, as he says that Geralt will be “part of” the game, and it “won’t focus” on him.
