Messiah Gets A Disappointing Update From Josh Brolin

Messiah Gets A Disappointing Update From Josh Brolin

Key Takeaways

  • Dune: Messiah film confirmed but might face delays.
  • Josh Brolin is excited about Dune, but the script hasn’t arrived.
  • Fans are patiently waiting for the completion of the Dune trilogy.

While Dune: Messiah has been confirmed as coming to theaters at some point, it’s possible it might take a little bit longer than the fans are comfortable with. One star of the final installment of the Dune trilogy recently talked about how much he’s looking forward to appearing in the next Dune film, but it might not be a while before he’s allowed to do that.

Dune has been a mainstay in the more hardcore science fiction fandom for decades, with the story first told in a 1963 novel. Author Frank Herbert added on and adjusted the story in several more books until he passed away in 1986. Due to the massive popularity of the novels, there have been several attempts to adapt the text however, while there have been some cult classics, critically the adaptations haven’t done well. However, Denis Villeneuve, has managed to find the formula for a success movie adaptation with his Timothy Chalet starring films and now a completion of the trilogy is on the way.

Dune: Messiah May Not Arrive Soon

Speaking to Forbes about a wide range of issues including his upcoming autobiography, Josh Brolin addressed where he sees his part in Dune: Messiah as well as how excited he is to get started. Unfortunately for fans of the franchise it doesn’t appear as though he’s going to be kicking it into gear anytime soon.

When you get into this coming-of-age story, spiritually, it has so many aspects of it. It’s like a youth, lust, love, big picture, adolescent myopia – all this stuff and watching Timothée [Chalamet] actually go through that. And then with Dune Two, seeing what Austin Butler did with that role, which I think was super, super special – and Florence [Pugh] – just everybody was great.

Brolin went on to say that while he’s excited to get back into the world of Dune, he hasn’t received a script. He added he was supposed to get one “a few weeks ago,” but it hasn’t arrived yet. It appears he’s more confused than anything else as to why it’s not come yet. With the Holidays now right around the corner, there is a real question as to whether he’ll get it before the end of the year. Brolin added that he understands that delays like this happen and he’ll just be happy to get into it when it arrives.

While his approach to the whole thing is certainly healthy and the correct way to approach it, Dune fans are almost certainly disappointed to hear that the first steps of this project has been delayed and that it doesn’t appear even the stars of the movie know when they can movie forward. One the bright side, there’s no doubt at this point that Dune: Messiah is getting made at some point and that it will complete the stories in Frank Herbert’s novels. Now it’s just a matter of finding out when production will really get going so that its audience can plan when to flood the theaters.
