To start ‘A Hoot and A Half’ in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you need to pick up the sparkling note inside The Library of Lore. You can find this on the floor in one of the side rooms, as pictured above. As it’s easy to walk past it unawares, it can be tricky to pinpoint when this quest appears for all players. However, some players are reporting it spawns after unlocking Haydes in The Storybook Vale. If you don’t see the note, you may need to progress further in the expansion. Pick up the note on the floor to begin ‘A Hoot and A Half,’ which turns out to be a list of fun facts written by Olaf.

Bring Olaf His Fun Facts Plus Listen To Olaf And The Lorekeeper Talking

The first objective is to speak to Olaf to give him his Fun Facts. Afterward, follow Olaf to The Library of Lore and listen to his conversation with the Lorekeeper. When they are finished chatting, talk to the Lorekeeper, who wants to share stories with Olaf but needs to rest, suggesting you could help Olaf find a new hobby and Anna could be able to help.

Talk To Anna And Take Pictures Of Things Around The Bind That Olaf Might Be Interested In

Speak with Anna, then take photos of the following things around The Bind that Olaf might find interesting:

• The Library of Lore – take a photo of anywhere inside The Library of Lore building.
• A mysterious hidden doorway beneath the bridge of The Bind – take a photo of the doorway you opened when unlocking Merida in ‘A New Chapter.’
• The Fountains – specifically, these are the two Fountains near the bridge. When taking a photo of the hidden doorway, this objective should also be completed.
• The Owls – take a picture of three different Owls around The Bind.

Undoubtedly, the trickiest photos to grab are the ones of the Owls. This is because each Owl Critter’s schedule is different, so you may need to check back at different times or days to get all the photos you need. Owls have the following schedule in Disney Dreamlight Valley:

• Brown Owl – All day (Monday–Friday only) in The Library of Lore.
• Dark Owl – All day (Saturday–Sunday only) in The Library of Lore.
• Light Owl – Every day between 3pm–8pm in The Bind.
• Purple Owl – Every day from midnight (12am) until 9am in The Bind.

Befriend And Unlock Any Of The Owls Around The Bind

Return to Olaf and speak with him to pick up the next objective, which involves befriending and unlocking any Owl around The Bind. You only need to befriend one Owl to tick off this objective by feeding an Owl its favorite food several times (Barley). If you’ve already befriended at least one Owl, the objective completes automatically, and you can move on to the next objective – speaking with Olaf again.

Decorate The Bind With An Autumn Mage Scarecrow

Olaf now wants you to decorate The Bind with an Autumn Mage Scarecrow. If you don’t already have one, you can craft one at the crafting table near your house. To make an Autumn Mage Scarecrow, you need the following things:

Fortunately, you can get all the above crafting ingredients from The Bind. If you need to get more Petrified Wood, you can mine rock nodes around The Bind and Everafter. You can also mine small rocks in The Library of Lore to get Petrified Wood. Pine Cones are also a pretty spawn drop next to large trees around The Bind and you get Soil from digging up the ground.

However, the trickiest item on the list is Trumpet Snails. While you can find them typically near the shoreline of The Bind, they can take a long time to spawn, so you might need to keep checking back to grab at least five. They also can spawn inland, so be sure to check all around The Bind for this elusive ingredient. Once you’ve got everything you need, craft and place the Autumn Mage Scarecrow using the Furniture menu anywhere you like in The Bind.

Return To Olaf (A Hoot And A Half Quest Rewards)

The final step in ‘A Hoot and A Half’ is to speak with Olaf, who is delighted and says The Bind is now perfect for observing and befriending owls. Olaf then rewards you with five pieces of Barley and you also get 500 Storybook Magic for completing the ‘A Hoot And A Half’ quest.
