Genshin Impact Officially Reveals New Liyue Character Lan Yan

Genshin Impact has officially revealed Lan Yan, the long-rumored Anemo unit from Liyue expected to debut sometime during Version 5.3. Although Mavuika and Citlali are arguably more anticipated in the next update, Genshin Impact fans also awaited Lan Yan’s playable announcement.

When Genshin Impact delayed its drip marketing for Version 5.3, players wondered if the Pyro Archon and other highly anticipated characters would become playable in the next patch. Fortunately, earlier in November, HoYoverse cleared their doubts by revealing Mavuika’s playable release in Genshin Impact‘s 5.3 update. Soon after, the RPG announced Citlali’s arrival as well. Previous leaks about Version 5.3 pointed at a third character named Lan Yan joining the Genshin Impact roster. The rumors about the unit turned out to be true, as HoYoverse finally confirmed her upcoming launch.

Genshin Impact Leak Shows Worrying Spiral Abyss Trend

Genshin Impact is reintroducing a feature to Floor 12 in Version 5.3, but it has some worrisome implications coupled with a recent Spiral Abyss trend.

Through a series of Twitter posts, Genshin Impact has shared promotional images of Lan Yan, an Anemo Vision holder hailing from Liyue, specifically from Chenyu Vale. According to her official description, Lan Yan is a Master Rattan Weaver whose talent has given her renown among villagers. However, she spends more time in the mountains than in her family’s home. It was also revealed that she is acquainted with Gaming, another Chenyu Vale character released during Lantern Rite 2024. Coincidentally, Lan Yan is also rumored to debut during Genshin Impact‘s next Lantern Rite.

Genshin Impact Reveals Lan Yan for Version 5.3

Unlike Mavuika and Citlali, Lan Yan is reported to be a four-star unit that performs best as a support. Earlier Genshin Impact leaks revealed Lan Yan’s ability kit, suggesting that she can create an Anemo shield with her Elemental Skill. Lan Yan’s kit might not be as attractive as Citlali’s, though, for the latter is rumored to be the next best shield in Genshin Impact alongside Zhongli and Baizhu. On the other hand, there is still plenty of time before Version 5.3 beta trials end, and the developers could further strengthen Lan Yan’s skills.

The first phase of Genshin Impact Version 5.3 is expected to wrap up Natlan’s Archon Quest, so Lan Yan will likely make her first appearance during the second half of the update. Fans who wish to pull for Lan Yan will have to wait until Genshin Impact Version 5.3, which is set to launch on January 1, 2025. Lan Yan may not be the only exciting addition coming during Lantern Rite 2025, though. According to recent leaks, Genshin Impact‘s Hu Tao could receive a new skin and a second Story Quest.
