When Cyberpunk 2077 first rolled out in 2020, it was far from being in an enjoyable state for players, especially on last-gen consoles. Being riddled with technical issues, the action RPG was widely panned for falling short of fans’ expectations at the time of launch. Fast-forward to the present, Cyberpunk 2077 has arguably turned things around, thanks to CDPR’s efforts with post-launch patches and a highly rated expansion. Project Orion Should Go All-in on One Overlooked Side of Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel, Project Orion, needs to do a lot to raise the bar for the IP, and one major style of side content could be the key to this.
During its earnings call for Q3 2024, CDPR announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 30 million copies, as of November 26, 2024. In the same period, the sci-fi game’s Phantom Liberty DLC hit the 8 million mark in sales. It’s worth noting that both figures take into account the sales of the individual product along with the sales of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, which includes both the base game and the DLC expansion. Reacting to the impressive numbers on Twitter, Cyberpunk 2077‘s Lead Quest Designer Pawel Sasko gave a shoutout to the game’s fans for their “unreal support” and said, “I never thought this will [sic] be possible.”
CDPR Spotlights Cyberpunk 2077’s Strong Sales and More
The new sales numbers shared by CDPR outline Cyberpunk 2077‘s continued growth over the years. Notably, the dystopian game generated 10 million sales in a little over two years, having previously sold 20 million units back in September 2022. In the same vein, at 8 million units sold, it took Phantom Liberty 14 months to almost double the sales it made in the first two months of release. Apart from Cyberpunk 2077‘s sales figures, the Polish developer also revealed that its new Witcher saga, codenamed Project Polaris, has entered the production phase. However, Cyberpunk 2077‘s sequel, Project Orion, still seems to be on the backburner, with only 64 devs working on it as of October 31, 2024.
While The Witcher fans are excited to know more about the next entry in the long-running RPG series, Cyberpunk players also have something to look forward to in the near future. In early 2025, Cyberpunk 2077 will land on Mac for the first time, opening up a new demographic for CDPR’s sci-fi franchise.
