Arcane Showrunner Respects Criticism About Season 2 Feeling Rushed

How Fortiche Brought Vi To Life

With season two of Arcane now streaming, fans will be left a bit bummed that it’s not getting another season. You’d think that with it being the most expensive animated show ever made, Riot and Netflix would want it to go on for longer. However, that’s not going to be the case, and they’re already exploring more shows in the League of Legends universe.

The final act of Arcane leans into queerness with so many of its characters and events.

While the show has been well received overall, there have been complaints about the second season’s pacing. Some fans felt like it was hard to understand how much time was going by and that multiple major events were unfolding without being properly explored. Showrunner Christian Linke addressed some of these complaints.

You Can’t Please Everybody

In a conversation with GamesRadar+, Linke explained that he respects the opinion of those who think season two was rushed, but the creators decided to approach it differently than the first one, which some people may not have liked.

A close-up of Kinx in Episode Two of Arcane Season Two slumped on the ground with her head down in sadness.

“When people watch season 1, there’s an aspect to the pacing… season 2 is a bit different in that regard,” said Linke. “I respect that people express that [opinion]. You’re right – the vast majority of the audience seems to be happy. But there are people who say, ‘It’s rushed. What’s going on?'”

He explained that the team wanted to try something new with season two, and decided to change the approach. However, there were fans who preferred the pacing and narrative style of the first season, and may be disappointed with this new approach. “I’m not happy that they feel that way, but I respect that.”

He continued saying that “there are people who say it’s too rushed, too much going on. There’s also the flip side. I see like, ‘Where’s Camille? She’s part of Piltover. Where’s Blitzcrank? Where’s Twitch? Why didn’t you include them?’ On one side, you have people saying it’s too much. On the other, you have people saying we didn’t do enough and we did our best… It’s hard. We’re doing our best to include the right amount of story.”

With the final three episodes now streaming, it was earlier reported that Arcane will be getting three spin-off shows. However, Riot Games co-founder Marc Merrill later clarified that one of the shows will focus on three regions, and that they are “exploring a bunch of different shows (and games).”

Set in the League of Legends universe, Arcane focuses on sisters Violet and Powder (later Jinx) as they end up on opposite sides of a growing conflict between the wealthy utopia of Piltover and its dark undercity whose citizens wish to break away from their oppressors. Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and Kevin Alejandro star in this animated adventure.
