Xbox Cipher Controllers And Game Pass Fire Sticks In Best Buy Black Friday Sale

Key Takeaways

  • Best Buy has cut the price of Xbox’s Cipher controllers and Game Pass-compatible Fire Sticks for Black Friday.
  • The two items together usually cost $120 but can be bought for $72 while they’re on sale.
  • That’s everything you need to play Game Pass without an Xbox other than a subscription.

Black Friday is still a few days away but its sales are kicking in left and right. A lot of Best Buy’s Black Friday deals went live over the weekend including a discount on Xbox‘s new Cipher controllers along with the Amazon Fire Stick you need to stream Game Pass without an Xbox. Combine those two deals and you’ll effectively get the Fire Stick free with your new controller.

Xbox has released two new controllers in its Cipher collection this year, the Sky Cipher and the Ghost Cipher. The designs are a throwback to the late ’90s/early ’00s when transparent consoles and accessories were all the rage. Despite still being a few months old, the Cipher controllers have had their prices cut by $20 in Best Buy’s Black Friday sale.

It’s what you can do with the $20 you save that makes this makeshift bundle even more appealing, particularly if you want to play Xbox games in another room in your house, or even if you don’t have an Xbox at all. Amazon’s 4K Fire Stick, one of two models needed to play games on Game Pass, has had $28 knocked off its usual price at Best Buy for Black Friday, bringing the cost down to $21.99.

Amazon’s Fire Stick is a streaming device that plugs right into your TV and provides you with quick and easy access to a variety of services, including Netflix, Disney Plus, and of course, Amazon Prime. Plus the Xbox TV App starting in July 2024 which will let you stream games on Game Pass without a console.

That means you can buy a Cipher controller plus a Game Pass-compatible Fire Stick for just $2 more than you would normally pay for one of Xbox’s transparent controllers all by itself. For those who don’t know, Game Pass was rolled out on select Fire Stick models over the summer which means you no longer have to own an Xbox to use Game Pass. Just a Fire Stick, a compatible controller, and a Game Pass subscription.

Most, but not all Game Pass titles are available via Amazon’s Fire Sticks. A friendly warning to those with particular games in mind as I found out the hard way this past weekend that
Minecraft
cannot be played on Game Pass via a Fire Stick.

Once you have a Fire Stick and a compatible controller, you’ve almost got everything you need to start playing Game Pass without a console. The only other thing you need is a subscription to Game Pass. Once your Fire Stick is set up, you’ll be able to sign up for Game Pass and start playing right away. Before you do that, it’s worth checking out our guide on the Game Pass changes that were implemented this year and figuring out which tier works best for you.
