  • MySims offers more instant gratification with customization options available from the beginning, earning it the win in that category.

Thanks to a 2024 rerelease on the Nintendo Switch, many people might not realise MySims and MySims: Kingdom are not recent games. MySims was released in 2007 as a spin-off to The Sims, and was followed up by its 2008 sequel, MySims: Kingdom.

Sofas, chairs, tables, and lights are only some of the kitsch items you will find in the Cozy Kitsch Kit in The Sims 4.

While you can’t buy the games individually for the Switch, your time is still precious, and so the question to be asked is: which game is better?

8 The Plot

MySims: Kingdom

At the very start of MySims, you are recruited by Mayor Rosalyn to help rebuild the town and attract residents. That is essentially it. It is up to you to redevelop the town and help people who want to move to town to settle into their homes.

In MySims: Kingdom, the world has a bit more of a storyline, or rather multiple small storylines for each island explored. The plot is King Ronald recruits you to be the royal Wandolier after the Kingdom falls into despair. Since there’s more of a plot to MySims: Kingdom, it wins this category.

7 Gameplay

MySims: Kingdom

Unlike all the other Sims games, in MySims, your character does not have any needs bar, so you can spend all day and all night running around, building buildings, crafting furniture, and gathering essence without any consequences.

The gameplay in MySims: Kingdom is very similar to MySims. However, there are a few new additions. For example, King Ronald will give you Kings Points for helping people in the kingdom, and after you have a certain number of Kings Points, you can travel to more islands. There’s a lot more gameplay in MySims: Kingdom, so it also wins this category.

6 Building And Crafting

MySims

Residents in your town in MySims will request you to build them a building and then follow up with requesting multiple items of furniture throughout the game. You also get to have your own workshop to craft furniture in, which is nice.

Building is only a little different in MySims: Kingdom since there is mana. This can prohibit the amount of building you do at once, and it can get a little frustrating when the only way to get mana is through collecting essence. For the sake of unlimited building, MySims will win this category.

5 The Characters

MySims: Kingdom

Almost all the same characters are recycled through both games. You will see a lot of the same NPCs you meet in MySims and MySims: Kingdom. In MySims, there’s a very basic level of interaction with the NPCs, usually the most you have to interact with an NPC is taking one of their requests.

In MySims: Kingdom, they have a little more dialogue, as they have to explain their wants to you and there’s a bit of a plot line to each island. The characters have a bit more substance to them, and for that, MySims: Kingdom will win this category.

4 The World

MySims: Kingdom

The world is pretty limited in MySims compared to MySims: Kingdom, as in MySims you remain in town. Everything you need is in that little town and is almost completely customizable. While it is nice everything you need is in one space, it can feel cramped.

In My Sims: Kingdom, there are a total of 13 different islands to explore, one being an island you will eventually own. While some of them can feel small, the world is vast and every island is different from each other, so because of that, MySims: Kingdom will win this category.

3 Customization

MySims

From the beginning of MySims, you have a lot of customization options available to you immediately. There are a lot of outfits to choose from and a pretty decent selection of hairstyles. Outside of character customization, you slowly obtain blueprints while assisting other residents.

For MySims: Kingdom, more customization options are available such as hair, outfits, and blueprints as you travel to new islands and meet more people instead of at the start of the game. For the sake of instant gratification and easy access, MySims is going to have to take the win for this category.

2 Reception

MySims

Both MySims and MySims: Kingdom had a DS release as well as a Wii release. MySims received average reviews upon its release and eventually went on to sell over four million units, even breaking a Guinness World Record for the best-selling Sims game on a Nintendo console.

My Sims: Kingdom was better received on the Wii than the DS, but it still did well. At one point it was nominated for Best Simulation game but did not win. It seems MySims: Kingdom was appreciated more as time went on, but MySims is going to win this category.

1 Winner

MySims: Kingdoms

So the final question is, which of the games is better? By going off the categories, MySims: Kingdom takes the cake, but it mostly depends on what you like. MySims is very focused on doing tasks, building mostly interior furniture, and repeat, while MySims: Kingdom has more of a story and exterior decorating.
