Although Valheim’s Deep North update is still in its early stages of development, some of the tentative plans for this update have already been revealed. While it’s said that the Deep North biome will be the last major biome update coming to the game, it may not be Valheim’s final update; Iron Gate could still add more to the game afterward.
The Deep North update will bring Valheim’s long journey in early access to an end with a full release. Meanwhile, this update will also finally introduce a proper ending for Valheim, along with a suite of other improvements to the game’s existing biomes. Ultimately, this new chapter for Valheim will be the perfect opportunity for both new and returning players to start a fresh journey.

Valheim’s Deep North Biome Update Is the New Endgame
The upcoming Deep North will serve as Valheim’s true ending, giving the game a proper conclusion with another epic boss fight and also marking the end of Valheim’s early access. Considering that Valheim has been in early access for almost four years, this update will be a major milestone for the game, especially considering how ambitious Iron Gate Studio’s plans are for this update.
As with any major biome in Valheim, players can expect a new progression tier of resources and gear leading up to a new final boss. In terms of difficulty, Valheim’s Deep North biome will still raise the bar, but it won’t be quite as drastic of a difficulty spike as some of the recently introduced biomes. A lot of players criticized the harsh difficulty spike of Valheim’s biomes, specifically the Ashlands biome. While Valheim’s developers defended this design in Coffee Stain Studios’ The Spill Livestream event, the Deep North biome is already said to be much more accessible, especially for players who plan on fighting Valheim’s biome bosses solo. However, the Deep North biome will be Valheim’s true ending, so it will still present a challenge to players who have already mastered the existing biomes, despite its difficulty curve being said to be generally more forgiving.

Valheim’s Deep North Update Introduces More than a New Biome and Boss Fight
While the new, final biome will naturally be the main appeal of this update, the Deep North update will also include a variety of game improvements, with every biome in Valheim said to receive some form of new content. Consequently, it’s recommended that longtime players start a new playthrough to get the full experience after this update is released. Starting a fresh playthrough in Valheim will also prevent conflicts with the map generation for this new biome on playthroughs where players have already explored the north region where the Deep North biome is expected to spawn.

While most of the exact details of Valheim’s Deep North update have yet to be revealed, including an anticipated release date, it’s already been confirmed that this update will introduce achievements for the game on both PC and Xbox platforms. Beyond this, the developers have also mentioned the possibility of mod support for Valheim on PC, although this may come at a later date.
Ultimately, this update will bring an end to Valheim’s early access journey, finally introducing a proper conclusion to the game. However, while this will be the new end of Valheim’s current arc, it may not be the game’s final update, with post-launch content and QoL updates for Valheim remaining highly requested among the game’s community.
