Ever since LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game back in 2005, Traveller’s Tales has built itself as the premier LEGO video game studio. Through countless games, the studio has brought the concept to all sorts of massive franchises and given fans a plethora of experiences to spend hours exploring. However, reports emerged about extensive crunch during LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and since then, LEGO has branched out to other studios. While the new LEGO games have been fun, they are also lacking something special.
In the past couple of years, LEGO fans have been treated to LEGO 2K Drive and LEGO Horizon Adventures. Both have come from completely different studios and have mostly delivered on the LEGO premise, but after fans spent years playing in Traveller’s Tales sandbox, these latest titles have seemingly failed to capture that same feeling. Because of that, it’s clear that more LEGO games from Traveller’s Tales need to come afterward.

Recent LEGO Outings Have Lacked Something
A couple of years after LEGO chose not to extend its exclusive license with TT Games, players were treated to the first major title in this new era in the form of LEGO 2K Drive. Unlike previous LEGO games, LEGO 2K Drive brought players to a LEGO-fied racing world not tied down by any pre-established IP. That blend mostly worked, yet the game’s live-service elements garnered much criticism. Many felt that the microtransactions brought the experience down considerably, and at the end of the day, some found it to be a pretty generic racing game.
This year, players were treated to the second major non-TT Games outing in the form of LEGO Horizon Adventures. This game has taken the Horizon Zero Dawn franchise and applied the LEGO formula for a younger audience. That also offers a bit of fun for fans of the franchise, but much like LEGO 2K Drive before it, it has been met with mixed reviews from players and critics. The gameplay is nothing ground-breaking, the levels are often too short, and some players believe the price does not match the experience.
Traveller’s Tales LEGO Games Should Never End
That makes two non-TT Games LEGO games that have failed to impress audiences. At the same time, the majority of TT Games’ LEGO games have been pretty successful. Players still talk about the original LEGO Star Wars, they have spent hours exploring LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and have been clamoring for another trip to LEGO Harry Potter for years. The studio just seems to know what makes a fun LEGO experience, so hopefully it will be able to create said titles for years to come.
Recent reports suggest that Warner Bros. wants its studios to focus on a specific set of IPs, with Traveller’s Tales likely being one of those studios. If that is true, then the studio may be locked to the likes of DC and the Wizarding World. Of course, it has made some fantastic LEGO games with those IPs, but there are many other franchises that could shine in the LEGO world, and they need to be given the chance to do just that.
As long as Traveller’s Tales does not repeat what happened during the development of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, it should be able to make LEGO titles for years to come. While it is nice to see new and unique LEGO experiences, they simply haven’t had the same caliber as what TT Games has been able to craft. Since no one else has been able to capture its magic yet, hopefully another title from the studio looms on the horizon.
