How to Catch Mighty Pokemon in Pokemon GO

Pokemon GO constantly offers new in-game events for players to participate in as part of the game’s live-service format. These events come each season and are a mix of one-off opportunities and celebrations, as well as more frequently recurring events such as Raid Days, Spotlight Hours, Community Days, Max Mondays, and more.

During Pokemon GO’s Max Out Season, Mighty Pokemon have been featured in multiple in-game events. Mighty Pokemon are essentially variants of regular specimens with improved power and the addition of special moves that they would not normally have access to. Because of these attributes, Mighty Pokemon are popular hits among Trainers, due to their potential to thrive in many different future battle scenarios, from Raids or Max Battles to PvP Cups and Leagues. Everything you need to know about Mighty Pokemon and how to obtain them has been included in the guide below.

In Pokemon GO, Mighty Pokemon were introduced through both the GO Wild Area: Fukuoka and GO Wild Area: Global events, in which they have been available to encounter and capture in the wild. Mighty Pokemon have more powerful stats compared to the average wild Pokemon of the same species, and can even come paired with special moves that they would not normally have access to, giving them more versatility in battle.

There are some important details considering Mighty Pokemon to keep in mind:

  • Will appear at lv 35-40 when not present in Weather Boost, and level 40-45 if they are present under the effects of Weather Boost.
  • They will always appear in their final evolution form, and can be encountered in shiny variants if you are lucky!
  • They are very aggressive during encounters/capture and have a higher chance of being XL or XXL than regular encounters.
  • They are more difficult to capture in general, meaning players may need additional Poke Balls or Berries in their supply.
  • They have 13/13/13 guaranteed IVs, at minimum.

In Pokemon GO, Mighty Pokemon can only be obtained in the wild during the GO Wild Area 2024 events. While there is potential for them to return in future events, this is the only current opportunity to obtain them, so players should make the most of this chance. When encountering Mighty Pokemon, they can be identified on the in-game map, with a yellow border effect around their feet when they spawn. Furthermore, when in a live encounter against a Mighty Pokemon, their CP range will be hidden and replaced with ‘!!!’ – so if you see this, you can be certain you are going up against a Mighty.

Using Safari Balls can be very helpful for capturing Mighty Pokemon, due to their aggression and multiple attempts to attack, disrupt throws, or even flee during encounters. Safari Balls have increased rates for capturing Pokemon, which makes Mighty Pokemon a good use for them. In addition to this, Safari Balls can be replenished with the hourly Timed Research, and expire completely at the end of the GO Wild Area events, disappearing from Trainers possession.
