Key Takeaways
- Genshin Impact players suggest introducing Birthday Banners for 5-Star and 4-Star characters to address character droughts.
- The lack of balance in featured Event Banners leads to prioritizing certain characters over others, causing prolonged absences.
- Implementing Birthday Banners could offer players a solution to obtain their favorite characters and alleviate frustration.
Genshin Impact players strongly believe that the recent droughts on the Event Banners could be solved by introducing a special Birthday Banner for 5-Star and 4-Star characters. With over 90 playable characters that hail from different nations, wield different weapons, and use different elements, it’s no surprise that Genshin Impact struggles to maintain a consistent schedule for its Event Banners. As the game continues to evolve, not every old character succeeds in keeping up with the meta – hypercarries such as Eula or supports such as Albedo start to lag behind the newcomers.
Most importantly, this inevitable lack of balance leads to the developers prioritizing certain Event Banners over others. While it has arguably been an issue since Sumeru, the current drought for Cryo characters in Genshin Impact is nothing short of unprecedented, with both Ganyu and Shenhe missing from the Event Banners for over 500 days. In fact, it has been 615 days since Shenhe was last featured as a 5-Star character, and she most likely will not appear on the Event Banners until late February 2025 (at the earliest).

Genshin Impact Leak Details New Mini-Game for Lantern Rite
A recent Genshin Impact leak is teasing the details for a new mini-game expected to come to the game during the annual Lantern Rite event.
One possible solution to avoid this degree of character droughts was proposed by joeycloud on the Genshin Impact subreddit. While it’s not necessarily a unique solution, it may arguably be the easiest one to implement. Not only would it solve the issue of limited 5-Stars not appearing in nearly two years, but it would guarantee players a way to obtain their favorite Genshin Impact character at least once per year.
How Birthday Banners Could Improve the Banner System in Genshin Impact
Not only do many players agree with joeycloud, but they feel that a rework of the Event Banners in Genshin Impact is inevitable. The Birthday Banner, as proposed by the Reddit thread, would allow players to roll for a 5-Star or 4-Star character on a standard Pity system. The 5-Star would be guaranteed at 90 Pity, whereas the 4-Star would be guaranteed at 10 Pity, and any further rolling upon obtaining the birthday character would be forbidden.
While an argument could be made that a Birthday Banner is only a band-aid rather than a permanent fix, players would certainly find it preferable over the ill-received Chronicled Banner from Version 4.5. As Genshin Impact approaches 100 playable characters, and with each patch only having four featured 5-Stars, the argument for Triple Banners or Birthday Banners is more relevant than ever. Thankfully, the developers have shown a desire to make changes to the gacha system in favor of players, but realistically, the Genshin Impact community shouldn’t expect any changes until after the Lantern Rite.
