Cyberpunk 2077 Fan Adds Realistic Map Mod To Game

Cyberpunk 2077 Fan Adds Realistic Map Mod To Game

Key Takeaways

  • Cyberpunk 2077 continues to be a massive hit among fans, with many finding new ways to have fun in Night City.
  • An aspiring game creator released a “Realistic Map” mod for the game, turning Night City into a Google Earth-level map.
  • The mod, which can be found on Nexus Mods, gives a great glimpse of what could have been and what may be on the horizon for the next Cyberpunk.

Nearly four years since its release in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 is still going strong among fans. Part of that has to do with the fact that the game only recently wrapped up its post-launch support with its Phantom Liberty DLC after a near disastrous debut. The other half has to do with just how plain fun Cyberpunk is.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty quest designer Maria Mazur walks us through the creation of the expansion, and how CDPR changed.

And while CD Projekt Red is actively working on the next Cyberpunk title, codenamed Orion, along with a smattering of other games, including The Witcher 4, fans are hard at work on making the current iteration even better than it already is.

Insert, SvenVH_Games, who developed a realistic map mod for Cyberpunk that essentially turns the world of Night City into a browsable in-game version of Google Earth. It is a wickedly cool mod that showcases just how much effort was put into realizing all the various buildings and boroughs that make up the fictional California town.

V, Zoom Into That Section Over There

Taking to Reddit, the designer showed off their creation, which is reportedly their first-ever mod for Cyberpunk. If that’s the case, then what a debut.

The mod, which can be found at Nexus Mods, “replaces the default map with a high-res 2D render texture of the actual map,” per the description. Unfortunately, like many mods, it’s currently only accessible on PC, meaning console players are left out.

That said, it’s a fantastic look at what could have been, and what could be coming down the line in the next entry. Through the mod, one can zoom in and out of various points of interest, with greater detail becoming apparent the deeper you dive.

Sure, some of the “illusion” of just how massive Night City is in comparison to how big it actually is lost, but it’s still an amazing proof of concept. The creator is currently pursuing a game programming degree, and if we had to hedge any bets, their future is extremely bright.
