The Replacer bundle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has ignited controversy, as players are made to make two purchases in order to receive an additional skin. Through the years, The Replacer has been a familiar face in the franchise’s marketing, making it a highly-anticipated skin. However, Black Ops 6 requires players to make a pricey upgrade in order to unlock a special Replacer variant.
In order to get the base version of The Replacer, players will have to pay 2,400 COD points, equaling $19.99 USD. This isn’t the most expensive Call of Duty item by any means. Earlier this year, Modern Warfare 3 received backlash for its $80 B.E.A.S.T Glove. The price of The Replacer bundle arguably isn’t completely honest, though, as players also have to upgrade to the Season 1 BlackCell Battle Pass in order to unlock this specific variant. With the Battle Pass costing $29.99, the total adds up to a whopping $50 for two skins. Unfortunately, the controversy doesn’t end there.

Black Ops 6’s Replacer Bundle Brings a Fan-Favorite Character Into Battle, But There’s a Twist
More Than Just a Price Issue
The price tag associated with the bundle is frustrating enough, but it has also been discovered that the BlackCell Battle Pass must be purchased before The Replacer bundle. If the BlackCell Battle Pass isn’t purchased first, then players are, for some reason, unable to unlock The Replacer’s BlackCell variant. Bundle launches are often the subject of debate among the Call of Duty community, like Black Ops 6‘s recent G’Day Bait Tracer Pack. While some discourse can be more trivial than others, the anger and frustration surrounding The Replacer bundle is a strong example of why so many gamers have become fatigued by microtransactions.
What’s most baffling of all, though, is that these items have to be purchased in a specific order. While there hasn’t been any official reasoning from Activision as to why this is the case, there doesn’t seem to be any justification that would exactly make sense. Although Black Ops 6 has been a strong entry in terms of its gameplay and better campaign, there have been several issues reportedly plaguing players. From criticisms of the Winner’s Circle to major glitches with Nuketown, it hasn’t been completely smooth sailing since launch. The Replacer bundle controversy on top of these varying issues has only frustrated many players further, especially the ones who have been waiting to purchase this skin.
The Replacer is portrayed by acting legend Peter Stormare.
The Replacer Compared To Its BlackCell Variant
Both versions of the skin look great, but the BlackCell variant arguably doesn’t offer enough to warrant such a steep additional price. The Replacer’s BlackCell version provides a color change that makes his palette black and white with orange accents while also adding a pair of sunglasses and a bulletproof vest over his suit. While cool, it doesn’t seem worth the extra payment. The Replacer has become a beloved character through the years, but players on social media, like Reddit, are unhappy with the price tag.
Other Features Offered In The Replacer Bundle
- “Quick Wit” blueprint for the AS VAL
- “Ramifications” blueprint for the PU-21 LMG
- “Replacement Killer” Finishing Move that can be used with any Operator
- “Aura +5000” Animated Calling Card
- “Many Hats” Animated Emblem
- Vehicular Weapon Charm
There is at least a bright side to this frustration, though. Although disappointing, The Replacer bundle and the BlackCell Battle Pass ultimately don’t have to be bought to enjoy the game. However, it definitely stings for the players who have been awaiting such a fun character to be added to Black Ops 6. Since its October launch, Black Ops 6 has made some questionable decisions with skins, but The Replacer bundle is one of its most baffling yet.
