Where to Farm Gold in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
While every enemy encounter you complete in Dragon Quest 3 Remake will earn you gold, there are a few special enemies throughout the game that you should focus on if you are looking to farm large amounts of gold. The amount of gold you earn will increase greatly the more you progress through DQIII Remake, but so do the prices.
This means that, while buying weapons and armor is a better idea early in the game, there will always be extremely powerful items for sale, so farming gold is always useful. Here, we will cover the best locations to farm gold at each stage of the game.
Early Game Gold Farming in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:
The earliest sections of DQIII Remake are the only areas that don’t feature enemies that stand out to such a degree that they lend themselves to farming. During the early-game, new players will be learning the mechanics, and returning players will be quickly making their way through to greener pastures. For the sake of this guide, we will consider this section to end after the Skyfell Tower dungeon, and the game’s first real boss, Robbin ‘Ood.
During this section of the game, you will receive a small amount of gold for every encounter. Pay attention to which areas you seem to have the easiest time getting through quickly, and if you are looking for gold this early in the game, spend as much time as necessary quickly defeating the easier enemies. However, the better option, is to get through these sections quickly, and reach your first real gold-farming location in DQIII: the Pyramid.
The Pyramid dungeon in Ibis is the third main dungeon in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, and the first to feature an enemy that drops far more gold than the average foe. This enemy is the Bag O’ Laughs.
Each Bag O’ Laughs will drop several times the gold as other enemies you’ll encounter leading up to the Pyramid. This enemy will be found throughout the Pyramid, but will become even more prevalent on 3F and above. The Bag O’ Laughs is a tough foe when you first encounter it, so you may need to spend some time leveling up before you can truly use them to farm gold. This enemy is not weak to any offensive spell we could find, but they have a low resistance to Fizzle and Snooze. Focus on physical attacks, with Critical Strikes being the most useful. Once you feel confident in your ability to defeat the Bag o’ Laughs, they will be the best way to farm gold early in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.
Bag O’ Laughs will also be found in Kidnapper’s Cave, the next major dungeon after the Pyramid. After that, there will be better locations to find during the mid-to-late game sections.
Aside from actually farming gold in the early sections of
DQIII, there are
steps you can take to prepare for much better farming abilities later in the game. Take some time to level up a Monster Wrangler, Thief, and Merchant. All three of these vocations have skills that can help greatly with farming gold. As soon as you can, enter the first
Monster Arena
fights in
Romaria
. The arena can be extremely profitable throughout the game. We’ll explore that more later in the guide.

Mid-Game Gold Farming in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:
As you reach the mid-game sections of Dragon Quest 3 Remake, you’ll begin to find more and more enemies that offer high amounts of gold. Taking advantage of certain vocations will now become possible as well. First, let’s look at the best locations to farm gold once you reach the halfway point in DQIII Remake.
The Tower of Transcendence is a useful location, both for farming gold, and leveling up fast in Dragon Quest 3 Remake. At the first level, you’ll get around 100 Gold Coins every encounter. For this stage of the game, this amount of gold will add up quickly. This is also a great time to begin adding a Merchant to your party.
The Merchant will sometimes find extra gold at the end of encounters. It seems like it is a high Luck attribute that increases the chances of this occurring. At the Tower of Transcendence, our Merchant frequently doubled the gold earned in about a third of our encounters. To add a Merchant to your party, you can create a new character at Patty’s Party Planning Place in Aliahan, or change one of your current party members at Alltrades Abbey.
About 2/3 of the way through Dragon Quest 3 Remake, you’ll reach the Maw of the Necrogond. Here, you’ll begin to encounter a variant of the Bag O’ Laughs called the Goodybag. These enemies drop a large amount of gold, and will be your next best option for farming, at least until the late game sections.
Late-Game Gold Farming in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Many of the most lucrative options for gold farming will come during Dragon Quest 3 Remake‘s late game sections. Once you reach Baramos’s Lair and beyond, you’ll start collecting far more gold in your basic encounters, with a select few enemies rewarding huge amounts when defeated.
Some of the first late-game enemies that drop more gold are the Living Statue variants, particularly the Stone Guardian. These large stone statues will have a raised fist, and commonly attack in groups of two or more. Even the weakest Living Statue will drop more than 100 gold coins.
The best enemy for farming gold, by far, is the Gold Golem. You’ll encounter this enemy when you reach Alefgard, after defeating Baramos for the first time and descending into the lower realm. You’ll find multiple Gold Golems in the southeast section of Alefgard (mainly in the wooded areas outside Rimuldar), and in the area’s main dungeons, all leading up to Zoma’s Citadel. Each Gold Golem will drop over 3000 Gold Coins.

More Gold Farming Methods in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
While the main method of farming gold in Drafgon Quest 3 Remake is through repeatedly defeating certain enemies, there are a few more methods that are worth mentioning.
Monster Arenas:
The first method is the Monster Arena. The Monster Arena offers gold rewards that get larger with each tier you complete. There are 11 tiers in all, with the final tiers offering more than 100,000 gold each. For this reason, you should consider bringing a Monster Wrangler with you in your party from the beginning. This vocation is the best for capturing friendly monsters, which are needed for the arena.
After the first time you complete each tier, you can still complete them again, though the rewards will be considerably less. Still, this is a reliable method for farming gold in DQIII Remake. You can find Monster Arenas in the following locations:
- Romaria
- Ibis
- Manoza
- Cantlin
- Jipang (Secret Location)
To unlock the Jipang Monster Arena, you must reach and defeat Xenlon at the top of Citadel Tower. This is accessible during the post-game only. After beating Xenlon, the dragon will grant you a wish. Ask for a new Monster Arena.

Thief Vocation:
The Thief is a great location for collecting the large amount of gold found in treasure chests throughout the game. Around level 14, you’ll unlock the Nose for Treasure ability. This allows you to learn how many treasure chests are in your vicinity.
Around level 20, you’ll unlock the Snoop spell, which shows the exact location of nearby treasure. Collecting every treasure will not only earn you a large amount of gold, but a huge collection of items to sell.
Make sure to
sell items
. You will amass a huge collection of weapons and armor, all of which can be sold. If you are worried that you might sell something you didn’t want to, then keep at least 4 of each item, and sell the rest. Using the Thief vocation, and accessing all the
sparkling treasure caches
in the overworld, this can get you a massive amount of Gold.
