Spoiler warning for cameos in Dragon Age: The VeilguardDragon Age: The Veilguard is being datamined by fans, revealing some cut content that was left behind in the game files. This includes some character bios that weren’t supposed to be seen by the player, and were seemingly used as references for developers.

These bios give us a rough idea of how old some of the characters are. Here, short descriptions were written for characters both old and new, meaning that the ages of companions from previous games have been confirmed too.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Datamine Reveals The Inquisitor Is In Their Thirties, Morrigan In Her Forties

These character bios were put together and shared by Twitter user @amirdrassil, and verified by our own James Troughton who dove into the files to check these out. Here, we can see some of the notes that developers made about various characters, including the ages that they had in mind.

Here, it’s revealed that the Inquisitor was intended to be around 30 years old. This would have made them 20 or in their early 20s in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Their bio also seems to come from a different story draft, as it explains that they’re not more involved with the narrative because they would “bring too much attention”. In the final game, they don’t help out because they’re fighting the Blight in the South.

The character description for Varric simply reads “Varric!”. The one for Dorian, similarly, says, “It’s Dorian!”. I just felt that this was important to highlight.

Then, we have Isabela. Her age range is 50, meaning she was in her 30s in Dragon Age 2. Her character description mentions two different appearances depending on “how the player resolves her past”, which is further evidence that importable world states were scrapped mid-development. The options would have been “dark black dyed hair”, or “red hair with streaks of grey”.

Morrigan’s one is also quite surprising, as her age range is given as 40. It’s safe to assume that her age isn’t 40 on the dot since this would have made her 18 at the time of Dragon Age: Origins, and we know that the writers rejected calls from EA for her to be this young. Amusingly, her speech pattern is described as “Morrigan-y”. That is certainly one way to put it.

On top of all of this, we also get the age ranges for our new companions. While not all of them are listed, here is what we do know:

  • Harding: 29
  • Emmrich: 50
  • Lucanis: 36
  • Neve: 30

Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Warden Cameo Was Cut At The Last Minute

The Warden was replaced at the very last minute, according to David Gaider.

This reveals that Harding was 19 when we met her in Dragon Age: Inquisition. She’s described as being a “girl-next-door” type, which tracks. We also get more details on Lucanis, as the bio describes him as “lean, sinewy, handsome, but haunted”. It also references other Antivan characters, Zevran and Josephine, as it notes that Lucanis’ accent is slightly different from theirs.

We’ll have to wait and see if any more behind-the-scenes content can be found now that fans are digging through the files. In the meantime, concept art has also been illuminating, revealing some scrapped story ideas.
