If you’re playing Dragon Quest 3 Remake on the normal Dragon Quest difficulty, then you shouldn’t be having too much trouble with a little bit of exploration. That said, some of the later parts of the game can be pretty tough if you don’t have a well-balanced party.

Dragon Quest 3 Remake: 8 Biggest Differences From The Original
How much has Dragon Quest 3 Remake changed the original? Here are the biggest changes.
While it’s easy to change your Job, it’s not quite as simple leveling those characters back up to a degree that they can survive the content you’re currently at. That’s where the Metal Slimes comes into play. They’ll have you boosted back up in no time.
You might come across Metal Slimes often enough throughout your journey, and also probably take note of the fact that they only take one point of damage no matter you do. That’s not because you’re level is too low though. Instead, Metal Slimes have maxed out defence. One point of damage is all they’ll ever take.
That does mean though that no matter what level you’re at, whether it’s level 1 or level 90, you’ll deal the same amount of damage. Metal Slimes drop quite a lot of EXP, especially if you can manage to defeat them early on. Liquid Metal Slimes, which are much rarer, offer exponentially more EXP. So if you come across these slimy buddies, always take the chance to try defeat them.
In general, Metal Slimes can be found anywhere that regular Slimes spawn. If you ever find yourself in an area where the only enemies are variants of Slime, then it’s almost guaranteed that Metal Slimes will spawn there as well.
That said, there are some areas where Metal Slimes have an even higher chance of appearing, such as the upper levels of the Tower of Transcendence. However, the spots with the highest spawn rates for Metal Slimes will be those that you can only reach once you gain the ability to fly with Ramia.
These areas can be identified by the raised sections of land that can only be reached with flight. There are plenty of these around the world, though these areas are the one’s we’ve found the most luck with:
- The hill immediately to the west of Aliahan.
- On the sloped hill to the north-west of the Tower of Transcendence.
- On the rightmost island north of Talontear Tunnel in Alefgard. You won’t have Ramia here, so you’ll have to sail out to it.
Just being here isn’t a guarantee that Metal Slimes will spawn, mind you, just that it is much more likely. Good luck on finding them. There’s no way to reduce the chance of them running away. And they really like running away.
Set the battle speed to ultra-fast
during your farming to speed things up a bit.
Since Metal Slimes, be they liquid or solid, can only ever take one point of damage, you might think it’s just a matter of mashing away until they are defeated. Except they also have an exceptionally high agility stat that both gives them a chance to flee, and also massively increases their evasion. So how do you counter that? There are a few methods.
The first and foremost is to increase your Agility. If you don’t already have a Personality that boosts it, you can use accessories. The Meteorite Bracer and Mercury’s Bandana are great for this. Having a Thief in your party is a great help here as they tend to have quite high Agility naturally.
Once you can match their speed, you’ll need to actually be able to defeat them. There are a few moves and weapons to look out for here. The first is the Metal Wing Boomerang, which deals a massive amount of damage to Metal Slimes if it hits, though this can only be obtained from the Rank 9 Monster Arena in Cantlin.
If you set your difficulty to Dracky Quest,
your monsters literally cannot die
in the arena, so try this if you’re struggling a bit too much or just want to speed up the process.
The Falcon Blade, which can be bought from the Merchant in Kol after retrieving his Forging Hammer, lets you attack twice in a single turn. The Metal Wing Boomerang should be preferred when fighting multiple Metal Slimes, though is great when only facing a single enemy.
The Headsman’s Axe is very helpful as well. While it has a high chance of missing, it will almost always crit if it does hit. And Metal Slimes aren’t immune to crits, meaning such a hit will defeat them in a single hit. This weapon can be found in Baramos’ Lair.
Beyond this, make liberal use of the Assassin’s Stab and Pressure Pointer abilities from the Thief and Warrior respectively. While these have a high chance of missing, they will also instnatly defeat an enemy, which is great for party members that otherwise have no more effective means of battling Metal Slimes.
While
Metal Slash is designed to be used against Metal Slimes
, it still only deals 1 point of damage which is guaranteed to hit. The chance of an instant kill is usually worth the risk.
On the magic side of things, Puff!, which turns the user into a dragon, is massively powerful and can attack every enemy. However, it takes two turns to set up. Try this if you already have another party member or two that can attack Metal Slimes.
Metal Slimes on average drop around 2,000 EXP, while Liquid Metal Slimes give about 12,000. It’s hefty stuff, especially before you get into the depths of the post-game dungeon.
