This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.

Key Takeaways

  • Naruto was the chosen Child of Prophecy in the Fourth Great Ninja War
  • Naruto reshaped the world, ending wars and establishing peace
  • Naruto’s role as the Child of Prophecy is still relevant in Boruto, alongside Sasuke.

The Child of Prophecy was one of the most important concepts in the Naruto series and something that had an immense payoff in the Fourth Great Ninja War. As fans know, the Child of Prophecy was believed to be the savior of the world, and this person turned out to be none other than Naruto Uzumaki, in part at least. Of course, initially, Kishimoto came up with the concept of the Child of Prophecy with the Naruto series in mind, which essentially means that the Boruto series hasn’t got much to do with it.

Sakura is an underrated Naruto character. She still has a lot of potential to explore.

But, now, with the serialization of the Boruto story, it becomes interesting to note what effect Naruto Uzumaki, the Child of Prophecy, has on the world, if any at all. Perhaps, there is an important role for the Child of Prophecy in the Boruto series as well, although likely not as important as the one that he had in Naruto.

Naruto Uzumaki As The Child Of Prophecy

Naruto Uzumaki After The War

  • Naruto Was The Chosen Child of Prophecy
  • In the 4th Great Ninja War, Naruto Saved The World

Naruto Uzumaki is known to be the Child of Prophecy. This doesn’t come as a surprise to any fan, given that it was foretold by the Great Toad Sage in the original series that one of Jiraiya’s students would go on to become the Child of Prophecy and save the world from doom. It is believed that the Child of Prophecy could have affected the world in two ways. Either they would bring about great peace, or they would bring about great destruction. Over the years, Jiraiya believed many people to be the Child of Prophecy, starting with Nagato Uzumaki. Due to the presence of the Rinnegan in his eyes, Jiraiya believed that Nagato was the one who was supposed to save the world, and rightly so. But, news about Nagato’s death absolutely broke him, and then he believed Minato to be the Child of Prophecy. Once again, Minato was a talent the likes of which had never been sent before and who could even match and surpass Hashirama Senju, had he been allowed to grow.

However, Minato’s death left Jiraiya looking for answers once again, and he eventually found his way to none other than Naruto, who surpassed all the expectations and, at the moment of Jiraiya’s death, showed him that he was truly the one who was going to rescue the world. Naruto learned from his master and lived up to his expectations. He became the Child of Prophecy, and ended up playing a huge role in the Fourth Great Ninja War. Naruto ended up rescuing the world from the clutches of the Akatsuki, specifically the Ten-Tails.

So you all agree, Naruto is the old man’s… – Kurama

That said, it must be kept in mind that Naruto is not the Child of Prophecy on his own. To be more precise, there exist Children of Prophecy in the Naruto world. These Children of Prophecy are the descendants of Ashura and Indra, and together, they went on to save the world. This, in essence, means that both Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha are Children of Prophecy, and the prophecy that told Jiraiya that his students were going to say the world only spoke half of the truth. Together, these two children go on to rescue the world from the clutches of Kaguya and affect the world greatly.

How Naruto Reshaped The World After The War

Naruto Ended Wars And Established An Era Of Peace

Naruto’s role as a Child of Prophecy was very interesting in the war. Essentially, the role was supposed to see Naruto rescue the world because it directly correlates with him being the savior of the world. This essentially means that the prophecy was fulfilled once Naruto sealed Kaguya, and essentially did its job. But, the role of the Child of Prophecy couldn’t possibly have ended with the conclusion of the Fourth Great Ninja War. Clearly, there was more work for Naruto to do and a new world for him to establish.

Boruto: How Sarada Will Get Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, Explained

Sarada has a lot of potential as Sasuke’s daugther. She could unlock her Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan in Boruto TBV.

The previous world had seen shinobi distrust each other for many years and, at the same time, seen wars break out repeatedly. Naruto’s world had to be different, and that is precisely why the world that he created deserves respect. In other words, Naruto’s job as the Child of Prophecy was not over yet, and he had to establish a lasting peace, which saw all the shinobi united and protecting the world against any threats.

Naruto and Sasuke

That is precisely why Naruto ended up fighting against Toneri Otsutsuki and protecting the planet from utter destruction in The Last: Naruto the Movie, and at the same time, why Naruto fought against Momoshiki and Kinshiki and, along with Sasuke, who is the other Child of Prophecy, helped defeat this threat for good. This, in essence, means that Naruto’s job as a Child of Prophecy hasn’t stopped even today. This is huge for the Boruto series moving forward, as it implies that Naruto’s job is not over yet, and he still has some unfinished business to take care of.

Is Naruto’s Role As The Child Of Prophecy Still Relevant In Boruto?

Naruto Is Still The Child Of Prophecy

In the Boruto series, the majority of the focus is on the next generation, which is being led by the likes of Boruto Uzumaki. This doesn’t come as a surprise to any fan, and no reader expects any less of the plot. However, just because Boruto is at the forefront of things does not mean that Naruto Uzumaki’s job as the protector of the world is over. Naruto is sealed away right now and has lost the vast majority of his powers, but he must return eventually and when he does, the author must make sure that his role as the Child of Prophecy is maintained forever.

Essentially, Naruto has to be the one at the forefront of things to maintain peace throughout the world. The same can be said for Sasuke as well, given that he is the other half of the Child of Prophecy. These two are meant to save the world and be its protector. This prophecy has been foretold ages ago, and absolutely cannot be wrong. It is time for them to take the role of the protector of the world and be the powerful leaders that they were made to be. The threat of the Otsutsuki, along with that of the Shinju, among others, cannot be allowed to exist while these two powerful fighters are there.

Of course, Boruto Uzumaki will be the hero in each case, but Naruto and Sasuke’s importance to the plot cannot be understated, and their role as the Children of Prophecy cannot be overshadowed either. The author must maintain a balance, and if he does, then, the basis on which a significant portion of the Naruto story was established is simply erased.

Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 17, is set to be December 20, 2024.
