Your farmhouse in Fields of Mistria is where you’ll need to be every night before the clock strikes 2:00am. On a new playthrough, there’s enough room for a bed and some furniture, but if you want to be able to cook without leaving your farm or decorate it to your liking, you’ll want to upgrade it. House upgrades in Fields of Mistria require a sum of Tesserae and a set amount of crafting materials such as wood and stone. As of Mistria‘s 0.12.3 version (November 18th, 2024), there are three upgrades. It’s likely there will be more upgrades when Mistria receives its next massive update.

Where to Upgrade Farmhouse
Every Farmhouse Upgrade
To upgrade your farmhouse in Fields of Mistria, head to The Eastern Road and go to the Carpenter’s Shop. It’s located at the northwest corner of Eastern Road. Interact with the sign on the front desk, and it’ll pull up a menu with Shop, Home Upgrade, and Farm Expansion (currently unavailable in Early Access). When you select Home Upgrade, you’ll be shown the required materials and the cost.
You can’t start from Home Upgrade 1 and jump to Home Upgrade 3. You’ll need to do each upgrade separately.
As of Fields of Mistria‘s Early Access, here are all the House Upgrades:

Where to Farm Materials
You can find Wood and Stone just about anywhere in Mistria by cutting down trees/chopping up branches, or breaking rocks/boulders in the mines. Since House Upgrades require such a large amount of materials, it’s highly recommended you upgrade your tools. Start by getting the Silver Pickaxe or the Silver Axe from the Blacksmith, or level up your Blacksmith Skill so you can create them yourselves. Silver tools require Silver Ingot, which can be made from ten pieces of Silver Ore.
A quicker albeit more expensive way to farm Wood/Stone is to buy it from the Carpenter’s Shop. Both materials cost 20 Tesserae a piece.
Iron Ingot
- To get Iron Ingot for House Upgrade #2, you’ll need to smelt x10 Iron Ore at the anvil at the Blacksmith’s House.
- You can get Iron Ore from the Ironclod monsters in the Tide Caverns (21-39) of the mines.
- Iron Nodes are also found in the Tide Caverns, which can be broken to farm a piece of Iron Ore or two.
- Iron Ore can be bought from the Blacksmith for 50 Tesserae.
Silver Ingot
- To get Silver Ingot for House Upgrade #3, you’ll need to smelt x10 Silver Ore at the anvil.
- You can get Silver Ore from mining Silver Nodes on the Deep Earth (41-59) floors of the mines. Defeating Silverclods is another way to farm Silver Ore.
- Silver Ore can be bought from the Blacksmith for 100 Tesserae.
There are certain perks/skills you can unlock from the dragon statue in the Mines Entrance that increase the amount of Ore dropped from nodes and enemies.
Should You Upgrade Farmhouse Before Barns/Coops?
When to Upgrade Farmhouse
You should do the first House Upgrade within Spring Year 1. House Upgrades 2 and 3 can be saved for later, and you’ll want to prioritize building larger barns and coops for your animals.
Expanding your living space is worth the time, effort, and money if you want somewhere to put all your decorations. If you’ve been consistent with the Museum Donations, then chances are you’ll have more furniture and recipes than you’ll know what to do with. You can either put these away in storage chests, or you can start decorating the farmhouse.
While nothing has been stated as of Early Access, it’s likely you’ll need to upgrade your house and do Farm Expansions before you can start marrying Mistria‘s Bachelorettes and/or Bachelors.
