How To Get Food For Chickens

Before proceeding with buying chicken and pastures, it’s important to sort out the food to maintain their vitality. Chickens in Farming Simulator 25 have three fodders as options:

Crop Planting Season Duration To Grow
Barley September to October 9 Months
Wheat September to October 10 Months
Sorghum April to May 4 Months

Most of the grains can be yielded between June to September. For the rest of the period, you won’t have anything to farm. It is recommended to store your grains in Silos. This will let you keep your yields and let you ready your crop for next year.

To feed chickens take the grains to a pasture using a trailer. Once you reach your Chicken Pasture, simply pour them near the food icon. If you own a Chicken Coop, you can unload your grains into the attached Silo.

You don’t have to manually feed the chickens in the game, and it would be taken care of automatically. After feeding, you’ll notice that your chickens are gaining health to give you eggs.

If you’re starting a fresh game, you might not own a Chicken Pasture or Coop. You’ll have to build them manually using the in-game build mode. To trigger it, simply press Shift+P and it will take you to build mode.

Under the build mode, you’ll find a cow icon on the left side, and navigate the sub-menu to find the chicken menu on the fifth tab. The following are buildable items are present on the menu:

Item Price Holding Capacity
Chicken Pasture 1 $2,450 31
Chicken Pasture 2 $4,400 30
Chicken Pasture 3 $5,700 20
Chicken Pasture 4 $6,900 20
Shed With Open Chicken Pasture 1 $25,000 20
Shed With Open Chicken Pasture 2 $30,000 20
Chicken Coop $79,000 360

The value-for-money option would be building a Chicken Coop to keep your feathery pals. Not only this has the highest holding capacity, but also has an attached Silo for the storage of grains. If you’re low on budget and only getting started with your new farm. Buying Chicken Pasture 2 would be the right choice.

You fill your Chicken Pastures, simply go near them, and find a floating green paw icon. Interact with this icon by pressing R on the keyboard or pressing Left Stick. This will open up a new menu for trading chickens.

There will be two sub-menus for inbound and outbound transactions. You’ll need to be in the inbound transaction menu to buy chickens. You can start your journey by buying young chickens and roosters to grow them for cheap.

To gain eggs, you have to make sure your chickens have reached puberty (six months) to allow them to mate. Additionally, you also have to maintain their health by keeping them well-fed.

Chickens with good health will yield you more eggs, so do not compromise. Since feeding is automatic, just be regular to check on your chickens to ensure their health. Feed grains like Barley, Wheat, and Sorghum, to get the best output with them.

If you keep the chickens at 100 percent health, you’ll have no problem getting a lot of eggs in no time. As time passes you’ll get Egg Crates near your Chicken Pasture, which you can sell to get profits. However, sell prices do vary in the game, so make sure to check the Price Calendar.

You can find the Price Calendar by going to the pause menu by pressing the Esc key or the Start button on the controller. You’ll see a graph icon on the left side, and open it. This menu will give you a detailed look at the best times to sell crops, products, and more. This will come in very handy if you want to get serious with poultry farming.

How To Sell Egg Crates

When you get Egg Crates from Chicken Pastures, you can pick them up and take them to sellers. However, you need to have a Forklift to pick up those crates. If you don’t own a Forklift, visit a nearby Vehicle Shop. Choose a Forklift with stats that favor your current needs. But of course, it would be inefficient to carry each to sellers using that.

To make it more efficient and fast, you’ll either need a Flatbed Trailer or a Flatbed Truck. If your egg yields are relatively low, owning a Flatbed Truck would do the trick. Just make sure to unfold the truck bed to load the crates on it. After loading the goods, simply fasten the security belts.

Load the eggs into your carriage truck and go to various buyers willing to pay a good price for the eggs. Once you reach your drop-off destination, you’ll see a black and yellow taped area. Keep your goods in this area to unload the Egg Crates. You can also automate this process by creating a job for AI Workers to save time. However, this process is a bit clunky as AI Workers can mess up on the way.

If you’re paranoid about the vehicle and good safety, maybe
ask your friend to do it for you or find some time to do it yourself

The best time to sell eggs is in November. The prices are peak during this time. You can hold your eggs for a while to sell them for a huge profit during that time. To sell eggs with any profit or loss, sell them when rates are around $3,300.

Avoid selling eggs between February to April, as prices dip a lot. Making all your hard work go down the drain. Instead try to bring in young chickens to the coop, during this time to let them mature. Letting you yield more profit without worrying about your expenses.

Also, do check which buyers are giving the best rates to plan your sales. Notice the travel distance and the money they are providing for eggs to decide which is the best option.
